I assume it's based on time spent in the air over a certain period of time rather than number of aircraft physically flying. They must have a huge amount of data now.

I'll be thinking along these lines for ages now. Is it an autism thing or am I just weird?

Now I'm travelling the world on Skycards, I thought it strange that a couple of weeks ago Fiji was 13 hours ahead of us in the UK but New Zealand - further east - was only 11 hours ahead.
And then there's the Russia / Alaska thing where they're just a few miles apart but three hours difference.
