Would love for @thewaroncars.bsky.social to do an episode on the economics of local bike shops. Even in bike friendly cities like Seattle, Portland and DC they seem to have extremely short lifespans.
The River Market is losing its neighborhood bike shop at the end of the year. :/ Cycling is still too much of a drive-to-ride culture in this city, and the neighborhood is still car centric and Amazon-supplied.
I had high hopes but this is a bummer.

Last night, I got home a few mins before 9pm. By the time I was outside to walk the dog at 9:05, there were a dozen federal agents and local cops on the stairs and lawn of the house directly across the street from me.

85% of DC dead wildlife found in DC killed from rat poison. After our vet approved and we kept seeing dead owls and Hawks on the Hill our dog has killed over 400 rats…most of them slower and likely poisoned. We need to ban the black rat poison boxes.
