But nothing about this negotiation, or this administration, is normal at all." @anneapplebaum.bsky.social's damning verdict on #witkoff.

THIS. Friendly reminder that the only reason we know the Wannsee Conference even happened - and who participated - is because a single copy of the heavily edited record given to each attendee survived the war. And was accidentally discovered in an archive in 1947.

The entire world can clearly see that Putin owns Steve Witkoff and yet Witkoff is the one that Trump wants leading the negotiations on a peace deal. If Putin owns Witkoff, and Trump doesn’t care, that means Putin owns Trump - either directly, by proxy, or by stupidity.

Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

Shout out to the recent upgrades to Crown St, Surry Hills. City of Sydney removed several car parks in favour of landscaped outdoor dining areas. Some were turning temporary ones from COVID permanent, others are new. It's a really great area to walk along and enjoy.

Here's some before and after:

Checking this morning some of that has been cleared up overnight, still a few claiming there's no gender element (which folks are pushing back on), some saying we get abuse because we are useless or it's scrutiny of our incompetence. Wishing physical harm on someone is not fair criticism imho.

❌ NZ pension costs are an unsustainable burden ❌
Seriously, no, for lots of reasons.
1. Our current Govt spending on pensions is low compared to most other advanced economies. And... [1/n]

I’m delighted to announce I'm standing as the Labour candidate in Wellington Bays/Rongotai in 2026. I'm thrilled to fight for better jobs, housing, and health services in our community. Look in the bio to donate, volunteer, and help us deliver a better government next year.

Every democratic partner hates the proposal. Public comments vs On background comments… 👀
Two key outcomes:

1. Ukraine's European allies + Australia, Canada & Japan have major problems w/ US-Russian peace proposal, particularly its restrictions on Ukraine's sovereignity
2. But, they are very wary of criticising or upsetting Trump, so are saying it's a good start but needs more work...
Ukraine's western allies say “additional work” need on US-Russia peace plan and demand EU and Nato are given a say over its contents - as 14 leaders try to slow down rush to force Kyiv to agree

Reminder that juror fees have not been increased since 2004 (yes 21 years ago). The maximum payable is $127 for more than 3 hours and beyond 9 pm.

The usual daily rate is $62 for more than 3 hours but not beyond 6 pm.

Jury duty is obviously nowhere near as important as being on a board.
