If the teachers can’t strike - students and families should.

I know it will never happen - but you’re all sending your kids to dangerously overcrowded and under supported classrooms.
Be bold Albertans!

The BCTF stands in solidarity with our colleagues in Alberta. Here in BC, we know how heavy-handed legislation against teachers and collective bargaining rights hurts schools, students, and everyone who works in public education. The Alberta government should negotiate, not legislate! ✊ #ABteachers

Can a reporter, ANY reporter ask Danielle Smith if she thinks 45 kids in a class is acceptable, even with an EA? There’s some low hanging fruit questions that should be posed to Smith during pressers.

Wherein the Minister of #ABED education refers to complexity in terms of refugees and ELL students - then talks about how complexity manifests as violence and aggression in the classroom. The conflation isn’t innocent - it’s deliberately xenophobic and racist.
Shame on you.

Again, its fallen on a women-dominated profession not to just to strike for their own rights and wages, but to somehow justify — unlike male-dominated unions — that they have kids' interests at heart.

Kids' interests the govt should take responsibility for, and already committed to in 2004.
Understand that Alberta teachers wouldn't need to ask for the extra $2B over the course of the contract if it hadn't have been stripped out of public schools and funneled into private/charter schools.

Sounds like a Danielle Smith problem.

All the arguments that "well, actually, teachers pickets are just fundamentally different than traditional labour pickets..." well, perhaps technically true, is also irrelevant.
That argument would be true for every other jurisdictions as well, but teachers still picket everywhere else.

It would be kind of funny if ATA started a campaign to unionize private and charter teachers.
They don't believe in public education, the professionalism of teachers, nor union activity.

Remember Bill 32? It made it so that union folks could opt out of "non-core functions" of their unions.
