Kind of disappointing the Guardian didn't trash this guy as thoroughly as his statements merit. Much of the forest surrounding L.A. is federal, not state land, and much along the coast isn't forest at all, and so forth....

Chris has it exactly right:

a. Cannon has no jurisdiction because of the appeal of the dismissal. She has no power to do jack shit in this case now.

b. She’s got no business addressing the 1/6 report not only because of (a) but because that’s totally separate from the case she dismissed.

That 4th sentence should have a different adjective as its 3rd word: "US ranks *highest* among industrial nations for deaths that could be prevented with timely access to healthcare" (since 'last' makes it sound like we in the US don't have many preventable deaths, which is untrue)
70% of the world’s population has universal healthcare, but not the US

We are the only highly developed nation without it

Our healthcare is twice as expensive as the average wealthy nation

US ranks last among industrial nations for deaths that could be prevented with timely access to healthcare

Latest Kate’s Terapet deck has been on my wishlist for a couple of years. Someone bought it for me. I did my second message draw says “That voice that tells you that you aren't good enough apparently does't know you at all. You're Amazing.” Thanks to Kate and my anonymous benefactor.

Yes. To gain points with Leader, the capitulation must be as public and humiliating as possible. Shows you mean business --the business of "getting along" with Leader.
ABC News had a very strong case on the merits (“we just used the same word the presiding judge used”)

They have the in-house lawyers and deep pockets to fight it.

They folded anyway.

They didn’t need to announce the settlement sum. But apparently they wanted everyone to see their capitulation.
JUST IN: A day after Trump and George Stephanopoulos were ordered to appear for depositions, they settled the case.

ABC has agreed to make a $15 million contribution to Trump presidential museum/foundation and air an apology for mischaracterizing the E. Jean Carroll verdict.

College freshman today were 6 years old in the 2012 election.

A student of mine (age 20) told me after class that he appreciates when I explain how US politics and media were different before, because the Trump era is all he’s seen.

This is what young Americans think politics is. It’s normal now.
I think that folks aren't seriously thinking about the implications of young adults who know nothing other than a country which has normalized MAGA politics, God help us all.

The other day I was pitching our Gilded Age course to undergrads:

“Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a nation where the wealthy had insane power and ordinary people were reoeatedly crushed by them until they lashed out in anger?”
journalists really should have a gilded age/progressive era historian on speed dial for the next few years. it will help a lot!
