#emacs posting but not really.

I've been getting into github.com/emacs-jupyte... recently for stats work and it's lovely.

There's a couple bugs that have been reported but unfixed for months.

There's a local news story from a few days after the author's last commit: www.msn.com/en-us/news/u...

#emacs posting to justify the effort. org-cite is pretty amazing, and also it stretches org's link syntax past the breaking point. I love how only the first cite key gets the `org-link` face, and none of the others do. wanna know why?

nice to have a place to be emo

#emacs posting through the horrors

did you know that calc has cumulative density functions? utpX for "upper tail probability for distribution X" (and ltpX as well). no you cannot read their docstrings to see how to use them, silly. that's what the manual's for!

alienation from our own thoughts sure does seem the direction the ai industry is taking us
For a little while, Facebook was serving me ads for an app called "SermonDone" that uses A.I. to 'help' pastors with their sermons.

Wanted to write a blog post on it, but where to even begin? How do you explain to people uhhh hey, you should want your thoughts to be your own?

#emacs posting because what else is best in life

after a decade of getting emacs set up just the way I like it, I'm finally learning about Calc. what is this. why is it the way that it is. it's so cool

my peers who are the most excited about ai will brag about what they're doing with it and 10/10 times it's they figured out a prompt that makes it role play an opinionated dickwad
feels like one of the main divides in how people view ai is the reaction to its ingratiating servile tone. when ai is like "ouhhhh i'm so sorry i got that wrong sir, let my try again, you were right my liege" tech guys are like "i like this" instead of "what the fuck is wrong with you"

#superman posting because it made me feel good things

loved supes' "I'm as human as anyone" soliloquy. felt so earned and corenswet pulls the absolute best out of it

tried vibecoding a sphinx extension and I gotta say ...

every single guess the machine made was wrong, but it at least gave me a scaffolding to learn by fixing

probably should've just followed sphinx's quickstart guide, in hindsight

skill issue? vibecoding sux? still no idea

when does a house become a home

when you try to take your cat to the vet but she hides so well you give up and reschedule, then she shows up at dinner time like nothing happened that's when

maybe getting real emo would fix me

#emacs posting because it's all I can do. til that org mode can't export a latex environment inside a displaymath fragment. (it was pmatrix)

pmatrix-inside-gather* exports fine, as a workaround, but I don't know if there's an obvious fix at the ox level

can tell something weird is going on when I've got high thoughts while sober

if I had infinite time and talent, I'd write a book doing a copernican swap from "politics is about forcing people to change to fit the system" to "politics is about forcing the system to change to suit people"

#emacs posting because it's better than thinking

did you know there's an `abbrev-minor-mode-table-alist`? no commands modify it, but it works just like the other minor mode alists. if you put a (MINOR-MODE . ABBREV-TABLE) cons on it then you get those abbrevs whenever the minor mode is active

I really enjoyed this. Guess I gotta watch it again before I read all those docs
I've spent the last half year investigating the nefarious interests behind the anti-AI Backlash. The results were surprising.

been using LLMs to learn Next.js and like ...

I guess it's cool that the website does the thing, and technically I am learning. As I sit in my chair by myself and remember Matt, the friendly dude who knew everything about CSS and loved to drop whatever he was doing to answer my noob questions
