A historian colleague of mine once blew someone’s mind after he asked “can’t you just look that up online?” and she replied “who do you think finds that stuff and puts it online?”

I've done a whirlwind speaking circuit these past few days (University of Alabama, Washington & Lee, & UVA)

It continues to be remarkable how many students are taught that originalism is legit or even necessary for legal interpretation...and remains a pleasure to disabuse them of that notion hehehe

I do love a sprawling, limby, twisty tree – Tom, you're providing excellent internets today!
I hand over an invisible ‘Tree Of The Day’ award to the most charismatic tree I see on each of my walks. Here are just a few past winners of this esteemed but still largely unknown prize.

Moths are excellent pets as they ask for nothing and all you have to do to acquire lots of them is open a window and switch on seven lamps and put a classic early Leonard Cohen LP on at a pleasant volume.

This was of course an utterly devious and self-serving plan to persuade as many professors of rare moths as possible, worldwide, to follow my Bluesky account.
Someone told me lately "Bluesky is just like Twitter." I argued that was untrue on the basis that last time I had a Twitter account most times I got a new follower their bio said "single & looking for fun" & here when I get a new follower it tends to say something like "professor of rare moths".

Pam Bondi brought a document to the Judiciary Committee today that had my search history of the Epstein files on it.

The DOJ is spying on members of Congress. It’s a disgrace and I won’t stand for it.

Weren't GOP senators demanding $500k because the DOJ researched their call records on January 6th?
"It is totally inappropriate and against the separations of powers for the DOJ to surveil us as we search the Epstein files. (US Attorney General) Bondi showed up today with a burn book that held a printed search history of exactly what emails I searched." - Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA).

I’m sure the lawmakers who were outraged that their toll (phone) records were obtained in the course of a predicated federal investigation through a subpoena are going to back Rep. Jayapal in being outraged at just lawless surveillance of her (and likely others’) search history, right?

When the CIA did this to the Senate it was one of the biggest intel scandals of the 21st century. But here it’s not just a huge scandal, it’s dumb: Pam Bondi is so bad at her job she brought the evidence herself to an open congressional hearing. www.theguardian.com/world/2014/j...

NEW: A page from Bondi's burn book. This is a list of the searches by Rep Jayapal of the unredacted Epstein files. That means the DOJ grabbed her search terms from the computers they set up for members of congress to view the Epstein files to use as ammunition. The photo is from Reuters.

Hahaha dude that's wild shit. You absolutely know Trump is guilty because they wouldn't give a shit what Dems were looking for otherwise. There's literally no reason to do this.
CNN: "Another photograph - these are notes AG Bondi brought to the hearing today. This shows a list of Rep. Jayapal's search history. Lawmakers are allowed to go to a DOJ facility to search unredacted files. We learned from this photo that the searches are apparently being tracked & read by the DOJ"

Of course, the current chair of the House Judiciary Committee is Jim Jordan, so you can get why Pam Bondi would assume he wouldn't care about getting justice for the victims of sexual assault.
I can't think of an attorney general ever showing this much open contempt for Congress before.

Not only would most of them think this kind of conduct was beneath them, they'd have known that the Judiciary Committee chair, whatever the party, would never stand for clownish antics like this.
Bondi is now just straight up ignoring questions from Democratic members

Pam Bondi had a choice today. She could hold pedophiles accountable or she could protect pedophiles. She chose to protect pedophiles. She chose to protect people who raped children.
