The part that makes me most angry is how powerless I feel. Short of doing a little unmentionable thing what can a regular citizen even do to meaningfully stop this. Our elected officials clearly won't.

Kessler syndrome is a very real danger for us and I don't think it's a stretch to believe that our entire society would need to be restructured if, say, we could no longer replenish our telecom, weather, or GPS satellites.
