Is Reform UK’s success a mirage based on media hype?
Right-wing influencers and the media conspire to create an air of invincibility around Reform, but the recent trajectory is underperformance

Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

It's also vastly easier and cheaper for media outlets to produce culture war content than policy stuff.

With policy, you have to find actual experts that are available and willing, then pray they're good entertaining communicators.

On culture shit, you start with a talking head and work backwards.
This chart (which applies even more to social media than it did to TV) lives in my head rent free.

Social media enveloping traditional media means everything and everyone is now competing in the entertainment market. Boring stuff like policy that affects millions of lives doesn’t stand a chance.

The Trump admin submitted a sworn declaration under oath that Costa Rica had changed its mind and would no longer take Mr. Abrego.

Costa Rica has now said publicly that that this is false, that they have not changed their position at all, and that they will still take him.
Unpacked:
In Aug., Govt said if Abrego pled guilty he could go to Costa Rica, where he's okay with going. Abrego said no to plea. Govt now wants to send him to Liberia. Why not Costa Rica? Govt told judge Thurs that Costa Rica wouldn’t take him anymore. @mariasacchetti exposed them.
Costa Rica will accept Abrego, per @washingtonpost.com .
If true, DOJ, DHS, and Dept of State caused lies to be disseminated to Judge Xinis all day Thursday, where an ICE official testified about info sent him by Dept of State, claiming Costa Rica wouldn't take Abrego.

It's been obvious for years that many social media accounts are foreign trolls. The tragedy has been the utter complacency about it. All an enemy had to do was tinkle a little bell and the dumb doggies would bark away at each other. Why bother with a nuclear arsenal?

Leaving aside Bevin's antisemitism, I think that hard-nosed trade unionist might spot that Glasman is a nutty old narcissist with delusions of grandeur and a contempt for the party he claims to represent

This is wild!

If the ruling tossing out Texas racially gerrymandered maps holds, and since Indiana failed to redraw theirs, plus Democrats gaining a seat in Utah, and with California voters’ new maps — Democrats will actually win the redistricting fight.

And remember, Trump started this mess.

Telegraph has an interview with Maurice Glasman in which he recalls an incident where he stated "I teach political philosophy". Well, on the only occasion on which I've met him, he showed a staggering ignorance of the basics of the subject.

It makes a loot of sense.

The right wing grifter "voice" is easy to replicate and requires no credentials or skills beyond time, shamelessness, and cruelty.

Twitter payouts for a modestly successful account aren't enough to live off in California, but will feed a family of four in Rajasthan.
I see a lot of Paidchecks on X didn’t realize that a whole lot of people on social media lie about their location to grift off the naïveté of the rage-addled American right.

Turns out this problem is real and it’s a thing those of us who worked on “disinformation” pointed out.

Of course in many respects everyone's life could be better. But that was always the case. There was never a time when life was particularly better than now.

So at what point in recent years did we start to expect that the government would take care of everything? And why?
