Years of house hunting in Auckland showed me that Aaron Drever was a smarmy wee git long before any criminal charges, but it wasn’t surprising to hear he’d done wrong. And keeps doing it. What IS surprising is how much catering companies pay. Is this normal?!

Hey David Seymour, Kiwis *are* clicking like mad on stories about the death of CK, but not because we approved of or even knew who he was, but because it’s another flashpoint in the transformation of an ally that we are watching in horror and dismay. The last clause of this screen grab👇😩
I am endlessly in awe of @mattkiser.bsky.social and his @whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.com newsletter. Today's "Today in one sentence" is a good model for mainstream publications to follow. You know, factual.

I want to expression my unequivocal concern & alarm as I've noticed the NZ rolling 12 month infant mortality rate has gone up dramatically since Quarter 2 2024.
(Anyone can replicate this by downloading the deaths for year ending by age data from infoshare, and the mean year population (quarterly))

Absolutely devastating news about Tom Phillips. Not to condone his actions at all, but losing their father has got to be the worst possible outcome for those kids.
September 8, 2025 at 12:15 AM
This is super disappointing — in this cess pit high-polarisation world why would any decent politician not take the opportunity to influence change that affects our kids, so it has the chance to be bipartisan and stable? 🤬

1. Thoughts are with Minnesotans right now. A brave show of force in an unbelievably scary time.

2. I really hope someone at the Minnesota protest has a purple sign that says "No Kings, Only Prince"
Despite warnings from the law enforcement not to attend today’s No Kings rally after this mornings shooting of Minnesota lawmakers with the killer on the lose, the No Kings Rally is happening at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul.

In case you are beating yourself up over the carbon emissions of using AI, don't. There are plenty of other things to beat yourself up over first (GHG-wise).... interesting read: www.sustainabilitybynumbers.com/p/carbon-foo...
What's the carbon footprint of using ChatGPT?
Very small compared to most of the other stuff you do.

It’s a fantasy but I’m starting to feel the best possible result for the next NZ election is a Labour-National coalition where they spend 3 yrs making bipartisan decisions on things like # civil servants, max/min $ national debt, so we can stope this relentless & wasteful bloat-decimate cycle #nzpol
With so many parties ‘ruling out’ working with other parties, is MMP losing its way?
Part of the appeal of MMP was that it might constrain some of the worst excesses of the executive. Right now, that is starting to look a little naive.
