Saw Merry Little Batman on the Amazon Movies FAST channel this morning.

It was cute and pretty fun. Definitely earned all the Emmys it won last year.

God, Cartoon Network was stupid to drop a film like that for no reason, especially since they have stuff like...

...um.

Hmm.

Sega says it will start implementing efficient development methods, including the use of AI.

However, because it knows AI use "faces strong resistance in creative areas", it pledges to only use it in "appropriate use cases".

I think this is the middle ground we're going to start seeing over time, as developers start to realise using genAI for game art is never going to pass muster with players. I think the general consensus will become "efficiency is fine, creativity is not"

Not a fucking surprise. If you're surprised by this you don't know SEGA intimately enough to understand their inner workings.

I think the biggest problem with live-action Disney remakes is that: It feels like they’re all ashamed of being based on cartoons, and feel like they need to “improve” the source material!

I miss when these kind of movies were just straight up cartoons and not ashamed of the source material!

However it will never beat the original book or the 1966 animated TV special that always will cherish my heart.

I know there's people who hate the Ron Howard/Jim Carrey's Grinch but I actually found it actually distinctive and charming in a way even with its flaws. Jim Carrey can put on a performance as the Grinch and I'm more forgiving than most. However I'm not forgiveful about the Illumination Grinch. Ugh.

one of my favorite interactions I've ever had is when a Japanese guy in like his 40s, asked me, with a slightly bewildered tone "where do you even hear about this shit? even Japanese people don't know this" in regards to me talking about some old untranslated game

the world is vast! many games!
there’s no possible way there can exist as many PS1 hidden gems as are being discovered

the only explanation is that people are producing brand-new PS1 deep cuts and backdating them to 1998

also I like how it often gets framed as "start with Ghibli and then you can work your way up to the degenerate seasonal stuff." yeah once you've seen good accessible stuff everyone likes you'll be more receptive to the latest fetish/ isekai garbage, which is of course when you are a True Anime Fan

so funny to still see people discussing the concept of what's a good "entry/ beginner anime" as if everyone under 40 didn't grow up in a world where anime was totally normalized and still needed to be eased into the medium. beginner anime for who, your grandparents?
