great thread of networking advice! I was asked about this by a student at a college talk recently and I said a lot of the same stuff. it's about connecting with people and making friends rather than seeing them as rungs on your career ladder.
SO, you want to network but don't know where to begin.
1. DON'T. Make friends instead
2. It's not about what they can do for you
3. Famous people are just people first
4. If you do have to gush, don't just say 'i love your work' , pick one thing and say why. Open ended compliments are awkward

Zero tolerance is the ONLY and FITTING response to genAI being used in production of media.
Sure, you might think it's too harsh. Sure, they might've only used it for early stuff in development, etc

when I'm not in the mood to work, somehow making a fake deal with myself that I just have to sit and try for like ten minutes works every time. inevitably after ten minutes I'm thinking "ok well this isn't so bad, I may as well keep going." my whole independent career has been built on this!

it's satisfying to look at old to-do lists I still have on my computer and realize "hey I actually did all that shit." in a list from June my immediate personal goals were to assemble and release a bunch of music, self-publish the Sublo production zine and lock down plans for our UK trip.
