I know it's hard to do this, but you really can hold two thoughts in your head simultaneously: Newsom is a slimy, opportunistic, soulless political climber whose instincts in this specific case are bang on the mark. "Liking" politicians has nothing to do with any of it. It's not a fan club.

So much this. It drives me nuts when I hear, for example, that Revenge of the Sith makes the other 2 prequel films better. It doesn’t! It doesn’t change the bad writing and dialogue and the resulting wooden acting by the leads. Is RotS better than the other 2? Yes, but /1
my hot take? a movie is by definition meant to be a standalone experience. even a movie that is part of a franchise or narrative trilogy must work as its own, self-contained story for it to even begin to qualify as good.
