In a strange position where I think there are massive, massive social harms to the proliferation of AI (misinfo, deepfakes, predatory 'companions', surveillance, labour rights) but also feel the mainstream arguments against it range from unconvincing (water) to actively harmful (copyright; "soul")

Like, I often hear "plagiarism machine that's killing the planet" but I'm very convinced that the copyright panic is actually *harming* artists far more than helping them. Strengthening Disney and Getty's IP rights in the name of "protecting artists" is a very bad thing, I think!

now i'm just yapping into the wind but another thing that annoys me is when people use the "poor people deserve nice clothes too" argument so flippantly. i appreciate the sentiment but you're also not entitled to other peoples' labor just so you can be on-trend
on this note it drives me bonkers when people complain about a $60 something sweatshirt being "too expensive". there is no such thing as a brand new $20 sweatshirt that is of reasonable quality, environmentally friendly, and doesn't require worker exploitation to produce. it does not exist.
fast fashion + wage stagnation has ruined everybody's concept of what things are supposed to cost
