Adoptee, sassy grandma, slightly misanthropic witch
As a child, my adopters liked to make fun of my appearance. My nose, they said, was as big as Jimmy Durante's.

Joke is on them. Turns out I am a cousin of his.

But yeah, adoption is such a blessing, right? How else can you buy kids for labor and abuse?

A new study finds many adult adoptees face challenges in health care because clinicians lack training on adoption and its lifelong impacts, highlighting the need for adoption‑competent care. 🥚
Clinicians' lack of adoption knowledge interferes with adoptees' patient-clinician relationship, analysis indicates
Researchers examined health care challenges faced by adult adoptees and how being adopted affects relationships with their clinicians. U.S. adult adoptees completed a mixed-methods online survey. A…

Amazing how quickly adoption supporters go from “she gave you away because she loved you so much” to “she didn’t want you. She gave you away. Get over it.”

RULE ABOUT AMERICAN FLAGS:

If you burn the fabric part, you're looking at jail.

But it you use the pole part to assault a police officer, you get a presidential pardon, praise, and some cash.

This is very random but adoptees are forever infantilized and it’s a huge reason why everybody thinks they know better than, for, and about us than we do ourselves. Infuriating is an understatement. 🥚

There is no such thing as an ethical adoption in the United States.
“what is the ethical way to #adopt?”
“what is the way to reform adoption?”

you mean how to make purchasing a child, exploiting a pregnant person’s poverty and vulnerability, and trampling human rights ethical? i’m of no help to you, sorry.

My mother's inability to express herself to me beyond trivial topics was a form of secondary rejection. How could she display emotion to the child she kept secret over 50 years when her survival depended on having no emotion at all?

The only thing I am grateful about of my adoption "experience" is that I survived and escaped those monsters.

Doesn't matter who's good or bad within a racist, classist system intentionally designed to uphold a particular standard of parenting by punishing those deemed undeserving.

It's our duty to be absolute in our negativity when discussing systems whose sole purpose is to destroy families.

🥚
definitely not always, and same true for step-parents, and same true for bio-parents (I know), but don't discount the good adoptive parents there are (I know some). we don't want to be as absolute in our negativity as the other side is - do we?

This!! I say it again:

It is ALL ADOPTERS. Until I see no children harmed, they are all bad. Period.
It's interesting to me that nice white liberals can understand that "not all men" or "not all white people" is silly and misses the point, but they can't see the same about adoptive parents/adoption being critiqued by adoptees.

#adoption is not an “experience” so much as it is a status. a second-class legal status.

to the extent that there is a common “adoption experience” i would call it a type of socially sanctioned gaslighting.

If adoption centers the interests of the adoptee, then why can’t the adoptee, at least at the age of majority, choose to end the fictive familial relationship?

Why can’t we annul our adoptions?

They always resort to personal attacks on mental health the minute you push against "adoption is great" propaganda.

And then block because they got called out. 🙄

My older adopted sibling has CP. When he was in HS, he came home from school upset bc the marching band teacher made fun of him.

My adopters thought that was funny & laughed at him.

We both made suicide attempts before 18.

That should tell you what kind of "safe loving home" adoption gave us.
