Just last night I was telling my 6 yo how a coworker's dad died at 88. His reaction was "That's not fair. Papaw only lived to 78." I had to explain how sometimes life isn't fair.

It's similar to policing. Voters love "cops stopping criminals"; they don't love "cops brutalizing minorities and the poor"
But our current system means you don't get one without the other, so when ppl hear "Defund the Police" they just reflexively vote for brutality

I think both calling for abolishing ICE is fine and casting what ICE is doing as inherent to immigration enforcement is an extremely bad idea because if you frame the choice as "open borders or this" lots of people will choose this. It also just isn't true, Canada has borders and IRCC don't do this
