The intrepid St Birinus, papal emissary from Genoa or thereabouts. His remains were ‘translated’ to Winchester, but the cult of St Swithun is still so strong that if you ask anyone in Winchester where is St B buried you’ll get a shrug of the shoulders, and ‘Who?’
A 1630s view of St Birinus, bishop of #Dorchester & apostle of #Wessex who died on 3 Dec 649 #otd (Rijksmuseum)

Absolutely right. Whenever I hear Chris Mason on the radio I turn it off.
Everyone is doing this ironically, but someone has to state it plainly. Chris Mason is exactly what is wrong with BBC politics coverage. Infantile coverage via soap opera and constant fawning over Reform and the archetypal Reform voter's supposed views.
Robbie Gibb describes the BBC's Political Editor Chris Mason as the "unsung hero of covering politics" and "absolutely first rate"

In shock news, it turns out that Brexit punched the UK economy in the face, much in the way that official forecasts in 2016 said it would punch the UK economy in the face, that were dismissed as nonsense by lying rightwing shills at the time.
Headline from a serious and long working paper on the economic impact of Brexit. Possible that this has been feeding into OBR and HMT discussions?

Global warming caused by humans is an observed fact. Yes, science still needs to learn more, but it's no more in overall doubt than the theory of gravity. And it's bad. Willful ignorance, enforced by those who choose to deny science, is an existential threat to our civilization.

In July, I FOI'd the Home Office for the full breakdown of spending on the Rwanda scheme

I was refused because the government planned to publish the data in future, and today is the day. These numbers are in millions
