A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say.

This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand.

All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

Real press failing here. It's crucial that Padilla was roughly forced out in the context of a blatantly authoritarian statement by Noem. @washingtonpost.com doesn't mention Noem's statement, @nytimes.com only mentions it very far down, and not in the summary of the events.

Kristi Noem: "We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city."

Sen. Alex Padilla is then forcibly removed!

This is very dangerous way to phrase the mission when regular US military forces are part of it. "Liberate" a major US city from its duly elected state and local officials? Utterly unacceptable language

💯 the quickest way to clientelism is to do to the American business sectors what they have done to the bureaucracy, universities, the lawyers, and every other social institution
It's just enormously important to understand that the goal of this tariff policy isn't to raise money or to increase manufacturing in the United States. The goal is to make some of the nation's largest companies subject to Trump's personal discretion and dependent on his favor.

Over the last few weeks I've been incrementally merging infrastructure for AIO into postgres. Just now I finally merged the first actual user of AIO ("streaming reads" now can use AIO).

It's been a long long road. I've been, with a lot of help along the way, working on this since some time in 2019.

I really wonder about reporters (the white ones) in elite political news outlets in Washington DC - are they just going to pretend that this is ok or will they have any shred of humanity to call this out for what this is?

The Atlantic article doesn't quite say what form Hegseth's “TEAM UPDATE.” had, but it sure sounds like it was a document, not just a chat message typed on the phone.

Which begs the question of how he even got that information onto the private phone?

Indeed. As a GC holder with a pending n400 I have the urge to self censor every time I write something public. Much more so than during Trump I. I try to suppress that urge, but I'm sure that a lot gets filtered subconsciously.
Spare a thought for your green-card holding and naturalized colleagues, many of whom are now doing risk-benefit calculations before speaking on anything that could be considered remotely political

How did our country (the U.S.) create and elevate such a group of cowardly, greedy, vain, arrogant, and profoundly insecure men to the highest rungs of power? They bring Zelensky to the Oval Office for what? To mock and denigrate a truly courageous leader & try to bring him down to their base level?

Marco Rubio's collaboration with Russia's Sergei Lavrov and Putin is one of the most disgusting acts of betrayal to democracy and our nation. Rubio has secured his place in history of infamy.

Apparently I still can be shocked and surprised.

If any of this is true, it's such an utterly pointless use of cruelty. Just straight out intentionally physically harming federal employees.
