I go to Alberta lot. Although it’s considered “right wing,” I’ve always been treated with kindness, friendliness and respect.

So if the US won’t have me back, oh well. I’ll just collect all my US assets and invest in Canada. It would be my great pleasure to live there

Sounds like nation building projects to me.
The Liberals are the first Federal Government to recognize these are serious problems, but need to invest more $, not just in the existing water issues and housing, but also in planning for future problems.

According to the 🇷🇺🇺🇸 "peace plan", 🇪🇺 would give the €210bn frozen Russian assets (plus €100 extra!) to the US, which would invest it in 🇺🇦 and receive the profits.

Whatever the coming days bring, the lesson for Europe is clear.

Europe must never again be dependent on the US for defence and security.

Europe must quickly invest much more in defence capabilities - intelligence, weapons systems, nuclear deterrence - so that it can resist any potential aggressor.

Thanks, but no thanks. We don't want Amazon, Microsoft and Google to invest a trillion dollars in datacenters in Europe that will bring data of EU citizens within reach of Trump and will lock-in our digital dependence for decades to come.

We need to start building our own digital infrastructure.

Most people won't read it, but we should all know what it says because it makes something unmistakably clear. The US sees itself as the sole authority in the Western hemisphere and intends to assert political, economic, and military influence across it to claim that authority. This isn't bluster or a midnight tweet. It's published formal doctrine that's shaping how their government acts. When you strip away the daily chaos and noise coming from the Trump admin, you see the pure ambition in this strategy for what it really is. It's a plan to take ••• < Canada 50501... ••• control over the hemisphere's resources, supply chains, and countries, including ours. The old Monroe Doctrine kept other powers out. This version keeps everyone in but under American terms. If we don't adjust, we weaken ourselves even more. That means entering negotiations from a disadvantage and accepting trade terms that send our raw resources south and having the jobs and value that comes from them, stay there. It leaves us as a supplier instead of a partner, a weak dependent instead of a country in control of its own future. And if we do nothing, his "joke" about a 51st state simply becomes the default outcome. Canada 50501... I've said this a lot but America needs us so much more than we act like they do. Their refineries are built for Canadian oil. We send them 4 million barrels a day. Their northeast relies on our hydro. The minerals they need for batteries and defence sit in our Canadian ground. We're not optional. We're essential. But we sure haven't acted like it. We've assumed that if we're friendly and reliable, fairness will surely follow. That isn't how power now works, and maybe it never was. The imbalance between us has always been there, and, despite the claims, Canada hasn't been taking advantage of America. It's quite the opposite. Their confidence has kept us cooperative and acting smaller than we are. < Canada 50501... •• We need to both get behind and keep doing the work that's already begun. We have to build options. We need to open markets in Europe and Asia. We must process our own minerals instead of shipping raw material out. We have to heavily invest in defence so we're treated as a partner, not an afterthought. None of this is instant, but thankfully it's underway. The most important shift isn't just external. It's internal. We need to finally understand our worth and negotiate from that place, because yes, confidence truly matters. The US strategy document is a coordinated plan to shape this hemisphere on American terms. Debate our government all you want, but the real pressure on Canada isn't

Currently NATO is mostly US troops and weapon systems. Do you think Trump will support us in an article 5 situation? Europe is still too much talking and little action. None of the countries are willing to invest in a real EU army.

I think that the European rail network (even the UK one) and the way European countries (even the UK) continue to invest in and improve it is evidence of the cultural superiority of Europe over the US. I need such thoughts in the age of Trump.

The Solution - Europe gets it sh*t together, and doesn't allow Russia or US to bully us. Spend more on defence and properly invest in our own European based tech. We have huge GDP and population. A united Europe is exactly what Russia and the US do not want because its so powerful.

Wishful thinking. The US is no longer an ally at all. They are actively playing for the other team now.

Europe needs to cut them off completely; constitute a NATO 2.0 without the US, Hungary & Slovakia, invest heavily in domestically produced weapons and get our own nuclear deterrent.

There are still decent Americans. But I have sold every US stock in my pension fund. I’m redirecting my money towards Europe - rule of law matters in economic performance. And for AI I plan to invest in China, betting against the US. Now I hope their economy burns to the ground…

Europe should terminate the trillions in US bonds if US doesn't want to invest in Europe. The investments were made because US bonds was safe, it's not safe anymore.
So terminate the bonds and US economy with it and spend it on defence of Europe as Trump wanted, all happy.

Von Ondarza said that in particular, “open US backing for regime change” in Europe meant that it was “really no longer possible for EU and national European leaders to deny that US strategy towards its European allies has radically changed”. Max Bergmann, the director of the Europe, Russia, Eurasia programme at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, said political meddling in Europe to back far-right nationalists was now “a core part of America’s national strategy”. Bergmann added: “This isn’t just a speech from a novice vice-president weeks into a new term. It is US policy, and they will try to implement it.” Moreover, he said, it could work: “In a fragmented political landscape, a 1-2% shift can change elections.” EU leaders “will have to confront the fact that the Trump administration is coming for them politically”, Bergmann said. “Do they just accept that Trump is funding their political downfall? Or does this begin to cause an incredible amount of friction?” Mujtaba Rahman, of the Eurasia Group risk consultancy, agreed. “The US is now officially committed, alongside Moscow, to interfering in European electoral politics to promote nationalist and anti-EU parties of the far right,” he said.
