Don't miss your chance to contribute to Development's next special issue, which takes a non-cell-centric approach to devbio, stem cells & regeneration. We hope to capture papers that discuss how secreted factors, external forces and the shape of spaces instruct development.

Well now I'm jealous of a jelly.
Blue buttons jellies float at the oceans surface, like little animal flowers, living between sea and sky. There are millions of them out there right now, and most will live their whole lives without even being seen by a human.

Despite the hard things, the world is still wondrous.

The message here is that publishing in Development might not be as hard as you think. This is supported by policy changes such as:
- publishing peer review history files where authors agree
- cross-reviewer consultation
- ongoing editor consultation
- using 'Limitations' sections

In their work, Rohan S. Roy & A. J. Hudspeth (@rockefeller.edu) show how gaps in tissue boundaries determine where regenerating axons branch, dependent on a secreted extracellular matrix protein.

I think the latest cover helps to remind us that Development is not just a faceless brand of a journal eager to line shareholder pockets - it's a group of people who share a love for #devbio and, in my experience, really are trying to do their best for their community.

#not-for-profit
Issue 24 is complete!

Marking the end of #biologists100, the cover features members of our community, including some featured 'extraordinary biologists' #100biologists, as well as our Editors and in-house team.

Thank you to all our authors and reviewers, past and present, for their contributions.

Another fascinating - and totally serendipitous - example of how human biological sex isn't always binary, despite executive orders that it is. In this case an XX/XY mosaic individual was a fertile female. Other XX/XY mosaics can be phenotypically male.
A fascinating case report.

The DNA of a female murder victim was genotyped and it turns out that she has been a chimera: a mixture of 46XX/46XY cell lines.

The analysis (STR-based) found:
1. The maternal chromosome was identical between the two cell lines.
