“Lively local version of AOC” -angry resident
I just fell down a 90 minute local government rabbit hole learning about the cities of chino and chino hills (guess what makes them different!), their councils, and especially this school board.

Their school board politics over the last decade is some of the worst I’ve ever seen, ever.

This, my friends, is a superb use of taxpayer money and police resources. So glad that Norm is home safe. We have zero tolerance for dognapping and dog extortion in Sunnyvale.

Days on threads before getting sexually harassed: 4

Days on Bluesky before getting sexually harassed: still counting!

I hope bluesky never allows GIFs. I don’t want to discuss how to pronounce GIF ever again. I DO want to see everyone continue to post from their deep meme stash.

If anyone is interested in learning how to do this, or if you need some interesting background noise tonight, tune in starting 7pm PST. Zoom link on the page linked below or you can stream it live on the @sunnyvalemeetings youtube acct.
Tonight, after FOUR years of planning, pre-meetings and study sessions, my city council will hear and approve (or not) the Moffett Park Specific Plan. The plan seeks to turn a big, ancient office park into 20k units of housing (15-20% below market) in a vibrant mixed use, walkable district.

You can turn your beige suburbs into vibrant neighborhoods and communities. It feels REALLY good. Run for city council. I’ll help you.
It’s right on the bay. It will be a gorgeous place to live, work, and visit. Taking these sprawling beige office monstrosities built in the 80s and 90s and turning them into communities full of beauty and life is an honor to be part of. I grew up here, this is my home.

I received the email written about in this article today directly from Mr. Rapport, with, inexplicably, @richardm.bsky.social cc’ed. what isn’t mentioned in this little write up is his references to the “Colorado and Arizona Cannibal Wars”, something I’d like to learn more about actually.
Don't get conned by ridiculous claims
Working at a newspaper, we in the newsroom get a lot of junk emails. Some of them are spam, suggesting we expand our reach by referencing websites we don't have

My kid found and immediately purchased this print from a random pop up flea market in Berlin.

I live in fear of this moment.
i could never run for political office because a reporter would ask me something like "are you pro- or against fried eggs on a burger" and i would say "pro" and she'd pull up an old tweet where i say "fried egg on burger is mid" and that kind of gaffe would be the end of it

My buddy is teaching a class on social movements and wants to know: what’s the essential reading to assign??
Teaching a class on social movements this fall and I gotta start preparing the syllabus. Throw reading my way!

I also want to mention that I rescued another shitposter from the dying or dead inside social medias. @dejezeus.bsky.social and I have been friends for at least a decade and so I can vouch for his shitposting capabilities. Being an adjunct history professor has only honed his craft. Please welcome.

I’m such a little black rain cloud over on threads. I have no idea why all of these people want meta to control a main source of breaking news and serious information. I say let them stay in their ad revenue lane.

While posting about bluesky on threads today I met @vvelan.bsky.social bc he inquired about getting a code. He’s a labor leader, pro-housing, and a proud shitposter. Turns out we share the same brain worms! Please welcome my new friend to our humble (but superior) platform!!

I really appreciate the thoughtful consideration the team is giving to being a place where journalism and high quality info can be spread and shared effectively.

But I still don’t understand why bluesky doesn’t have a trust and safety lead yet.
journalists are (one of) the backbones of social media — having a space for breaking news and real-time communication is incredibly crucial for crises, information dissemination, and more

and sure, political discourse can come along with "scrutiny and negativity," but what isn't political
Direct from Mosseri: they DON’T want to encourage politics and hard news posting on Threads, and the “scrutiny, negativity…or integrity risks that come along with them.”

I smiled the entire time reading this
reupping the Rufus Origin Story for the normal people who were offline in the middle of the day
ok so what happened was.

in 2018, California passed prop 12, which required that pigs, chickens, and cattle all get a certain amount of space to move around. the chicken and cattle industries complied. the pork industry, however, was like "no we need to cram the pigs in cages" and sued to stop it.
