POEM 283: "Soft machine, you are breathing wrong" by Alison Heron Hruby (@alisonheronhruby.bsky.social)

"I thought I could breathe well,
that I could draw in my ribs like an expert,
knew the fundamentals in my heart,
to exhale what I did not need."

I sincerely hope Democrats pay attention to tonight’s results across the country. They won’t learn anything but still. Maybe. People are excited by change and original campaigns and bold ideas and candidates under the age of 50!

All over the world lawless, brutal policing is seen as a mark of eroded democracy. So why isn’t America’s ongoing, century-old problem of police racism & brutality part of our democracy discourse? Here’s my take on the 5th anniversary of the murder of George Floyd.

Very pleased to be a part of this issue of @barrelhouse.bsky.social - my first published poem! Lots of cool stuff in the issue, all free online (below), so check it out if you have a minute. Me, I’ll be looking up what a villanelle is - I feel like I should know that, now that I’m a poet and all. 😀
We have a new online issue up today! Inspired by Supreme Court Justice Alito's question about whether Pornhub includes highbrow literary content, like Gore Vidal, we felt it our duty to fill that void. Lots of great, surprising, weird work in here

As a writing studies person & academic (😬), I’ve honestly felt embarrassed & disappointed at how some teacher-scholars seem inclined to make peace w/ AI, trying to teach it rather than calling it out as fundamentally unethical.

But here’s an article arguing for resistance & not giving an inch.
