I'm proud that my first vote (1992) was cast for Russ Feingold. He and Paul Wellstone are still in my top 5 political crushes. Not only did he vote against DHS, he was the sole vote against the Patriot Act (it was 98-1 in the Senate). That's political courage.
This is who voted against establishing DHS

Between this, the increase in digital surveillance, and Trump seeming to want to divide the world into three totalitarian power blocs, Orwell's looking more prescient every day.

post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't nirvana, pearl jam, soundgarden, or Alice In Chains.

"millions now living will never die" by Tortoise, it happens to be what I'm listening to right now. This one really redefined what a band could be for me.

For the record, my last name really is 'Galt' and it's not some kind of nom de internet reference to objectivism. I just had a disconcerting exchange, and not for the first time.

My 82 year old Dad has been painting Snoopy on our windows since 1969. Here's this year's effort Vs his first one.

The best illustration of the power of photography that I’ve seen recently.
Oh my god y'all I had not seen the rest of the Vanity Fair photos holy shit. Christopher Anderson deserves a medal.

Look at this. He left the LIGHT SWITCHES in the edited photos! These assholes look like their well-meaning mom took a picture of them on their first day in a grown-up job.

In Wisconsin, we would have built a state park around this. In New Mexico, it was just our AirBnB's backyard. I've been going back through stuff I shot with the Isolette... not a bad camera!

When I heard about #TheStringer and the questioning of Ut’s credit for “Napalm Girl,” I assumed it would be sensationalist bs. Now that I’ve seen it, I see it’s not. It’s a compelling story with compelling evidence. I haven’t seen any kind of response from Ut, the AP’s report isn’t persuasive.

Over on the blog, I have just published "Five Recent Stereoviews." This is five, recent stereo views. I've even set it up so that you download them, print them, and then load them into your Victorian stereo viewer to revel in their dimensionality. #BelieveInFIlm #IShootFilm #StereoPhotography

Is there a nerdier branch of photography than stereo photography? (Yes, almost certainly.) Our interest, as a family, goes back a year or so to when we were clearing out Linda’s dad’s r…

Look how lame and disingenuous Rep. Tony Wied (WI-08) is... Here's a screen shot of an email I just received in which he's giving Republicans the credit for the Epstein File transparency bill. Can't wait to vote this guy out. #Wisconsin #TonyWIed #WI08 #EpsteinFiles

For #FountainPenDay2025... I’ve been using refillable fountain pens since 2017. It was another thing I could stop treating as disposable. (I used to blow through Pilot G-2s.) These are more fun. I’ve misplaced 2 pens, but thrown away 0. I’ve IDed these in the alt text if you’re curious.

Georgia Democrats had not won a statewide race that wasn't for a federal office since 2006.

They won two races tonight, both against GOP incumbents.

The margins? 62% to 38% in both.

This is great for Georgia! Wish we had elections for utility commission in Wisconsin...
RESULT: Democrats have flipped two seats on Georgia's utility commission.

The commission shapes Georgia's environmental future, determining the state's energy mix between clean energy and fossil fuel sources.
In upset, Democrats win in PSC races that could affect Georgia Power bills
Democrats Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard won statewide elections, defeating Republican incumbents, for seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission.

Really jealous of the people who get to vote tomorrow.
Folks, tomorrow, 11/4, over 52K races happen nationwide! Key contests are in CA, NJ, PA & VA, with others in ME, MS, and beyond. Real change starts local—vote in every race to shape policies in your state and community. Your voice matters up and down the ballot! #Election2025
