For #FountainPenDay2025... I’ve been using refillable fountain pens since 2017. It was another thing I could stop treating as disposable. (I used to blow through Pilot G-2s.) These are more fun. I’ve misplaced 2 pens, but thrown away 0. I’ve IDed these in the alt text if you’re curious.

Georgia Democrats had not won a statewide race that wasn't for a federal office since 2006.

They won two races tonight, both against GOP incumbents.

The margins? 62% to 38% in both.

This is great for Georgia! Wish we had elections for utility commission in Wisconsin...
RESULT: Democrats have flipped two seats on Georgia's utility commission.

The commission shapes Georgia's environmental future, determining the state's energy mix between clean energy and fossil fuel sources.
In upset, Democrats win in PSC races that could affect Georgia Power bills
Democrats Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard won statewide elections, defeating Republican incumbents, for seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission.

Really jealous of the people who get to vote tomorrow.
Folks, tomorrow, 11/4, over 52K races happen nationwide! Key contests are in CA, NJ, PA & VA, with others in ME, MS, and beyond. Real change starts local—vote in every race to shape policies in your state and community. Your voice matters up and down the ballot! #Election2025

I just contributed to Francesca Hong’s run for Governor of Wisconsin, because that’s the leadership I want. Lots of great candidates in the primary though.

I'd missed this story. I'm at a point where I can only cope with the news for about 5 minutes a day.
I am just going to keep posting that the TX governor recently pardoned a political murderer.

The dude texted "I'm going to shoot protestors", then went and shot a Black Lives Matter protester. He was convicted in a jury trial.

Hard to find a more blatant example of celebrating political violence.
Gov. Greg Abbott pardons Daniel Perry, veteran who killed police brutality protester in 2020
A Travis County jury sentenced Perry to 25 years in prison last year, prompting Abbott to ask the state parole board to review his case.

Can't overstate how Google's AI Overview is hitting arts criticism. Until recently, you found a bunch of top reviews for a new exhibition, play or film via search. Now you get an AI overview. Traffic is falling away.

The Death of the Full-Time Critic and What It Means for the Future of Art Writing

Idling at an antique mall, a man comes across a little yellow Kodak box. "What is it?" he says and takes it off the shelf. It's a lens hood, yellow filter, and UV filter made to fit his Kodak from 1954. "This is the kind of consumerism I can get behind," he murmured to himself. #BelieveInFilm

It was Halloween in NYC circa the millennium. I was dressed as a monkey with fez and cymbals; Leonardo di Caprio was dressed as a newsboy (clearly 'borrowed' from wardrobe). We crossed paths on an empty street. He looked disapproving of my costume and I of his. To this day, we remain enemies.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie
