Here's a comic for you to order, as it comes out Tuesday. Librarian (& anti-censorship advocate) Jarrett Dapier's WAKE NOW IN THE FIRE is the story of Chicago Public Schools banning PERSEPOLIS. It's a nonfiction comic!

Buy it at your fav indie or ask your library to order it.

A7: I watched from my couch instead of the Watch Party Program I was supposed to host! I was pretty surprised by some of the YMAs! I am overjoyed that "All the Blues in the Sky" won the Newbery, as someone who went through a similar grieving process in my childhood. Also Candace Fleming!! #TLSkyChat
Q7: BRAIN BREAK 💛
Anyone watch the YMAs? Any surprises? Any heart books among the honored?

A6: MY FURNITURE! I have extremely clunky wooden furniture that is sharp at the edges, heavy, and uncomfortable! It makes my space look super old, and I wish that I had more modern, lighter, moveable furniture that could accommodate for large class collaboration and fun! #TLSKyChat
💛📚 Q6: If you could redesign one aspect of your library to better support all learners, what would you change first—and why?

A5: I have an open door policy with my students that they can come to the library and know I am always a listening ear. I also give students plenty of choice when entering my space, and I have stations (reading, coloring, stick-it poster, puzzle, Legos, games, etc.) when they need space! #TLSkyChat
Q5 for tonight’s #TLSkyChat!
💬 How do you support students’ social-emotional needs in the library without crossing into the role of counselor or administrator?

A4: Brownstone by Samuel Teer is one of my favorite graphic novels to share with my middle schoolers! Although it is super deep, it is also so sweet and lighthearted and a great lesson in understanding. (Featured is my signed copy that @katemessner.com brought me back from ALA25!) #TLSkyChat

A3: I have some of my library tables spread out, some joined together, and I even have an old desktop computer bar in my library. All areas are perfect for each type of student: the independent worker, the collaborators, or the parallel partners! #TLSkyChat
Q3 for tonight’s #TLSkyChat!
💬 How do you balance quiet, calming needs with collaboration, creativity, and active learning—all within one shared library space?

A1: Having as MUCH signage as possible makes the library space as accessible as possible. All genre signage matches the labels that are on the books for no confusion, along with flexible seating for my kiddos that need a break from a standard desk. Books with rep. are always displayed! #TLSkyChat
💛📚 Q2: How do you intentionally design your library to support neurodivergent learners?
Think spaces, routines, collections, expectations, or policies.

A1: In my library, I students are actively involved in collection development. From the deselection of materials, to the creation of materials, to organization and shelving, my students have a voice in how the library looks and feels...especially for my more active readers! #TLSkyChat
Here it is! Q1 for tonight’s #TLSkyChat!
💬 What does student voice look like in your library beyond surveys or suggestion boxes?
How do students influence decisions, spaces, or programming?

The Saturday librarian is BACK! I haven’t been a Saturday librarian for almost TWO YEARS! If you don’t know I’m also a (certified) public librarian and have been since 2023. It’s my summer gig, my school break gig, where I spend most of library school, and where I get to serve my community!
