EEK! I FINALLY genrefied my graphic novels! My students helped place the graphic novel and genre stickers on each book, and then I created the different collections. I have lots of gaps to fill, but now I know where the gaps are. I love it so much!

Here are two pages of romance recommendations for your young teen fans of THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY to read next!

We were delighted to be able to come up with so many #youngteenlit titles: there have been several romance books published in the past year with 8th-9th grade protagonists.

Yuck. #TLsky I don't know. How did we do this before companies/people that scraped up all of the books without permission? #eduskyai

Texas schools are using AI to screen library books under new state law
Supporters see ChatGPT as a way to help weed out inappropriate content, but critics say AI can include incorrect details and miss valuable context.

Halloween is approaching! Be sure to have some non-food goodies for your trick-or-treaters! Our family is participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project, which helps raise awareness for children with severe food allergies and ensures that they are included during food-centered events and celebrations!

A8: My favorite read of this year would definitely be "Ten Thousand Tries." This book hit home for me, as it depicts a boy grieving the impending loss of his father from ALS. I lost my grandfather to ALS when I was 10. I needed this book and the mirror that I wasn't alone in my anger. #TLSkyChat

I love me an advanced readers copy to experience titles before they are officially released. I read several then went to ALA and met the authors. It was soooo cool! #TLSkyChat

A7: HEARTSTOPPER! Even though it isn't an American book, my middle schoolers can't get enough of Alice Oseman's series! Second and third place would go out to "The Wild Robot" and "Komi Can't Communicate!" #TLSkyChat

A6: I am SO hoping the Newbery committee gives some love to @katemessner.com for her novel, "The Trouble with Heroes!" I may be biased because it is set 15 minutes from my house, and Kate was an English teacher in my building before she started writing. Her novel truly speaks to the heart #TLSkyChat
💛📚 Q6: Let’s make some predictions! Which books or creators do you think the awards committees will show some love to this year? Share A6 with #TLSkyChat. tlskychat.com

A5: I have seen some shifts with the Newbery and Caldecott toward inclusion, but I have noticed that there are still stories that are centering animals (like "The Eyes and the Impossible") over stories about youth and their life experiences. I think Erin Entrada Kelly's 2025 win was HUGE! #TLSkyChat
Q5 for tonight’s #TLSkyChat!

💬 Although recent efforts have emphasized inclusion, over the years, some award lists have been criticized for lacking representation or accessibility. What shifts have you noticed (if any), and what do you still hope to see?

A4: I am a YMA STAN. I LOVE award season! I have a HUGE display on one of my blank walls.

My favorites: Newbery, Schneider, Sibert, Stonewall, YALSA, Coretta Scott King, Pura Belpre, Asian/Pacific American Award, American Indian Youth Lit Award, and Printz....just to name a few #TLSkyChat
💛📚 Q4: Now let’s talk some specifics! Which book awards do you look forward to each year? (Are you a Newbery Nerd or a Schneider Stan?) Which awards do you still need to learn more about? Share A4 with #TLSkyChat. tlskychat.com
