Our new AJS article shows that high earning family and work life courses are remarkably similar in different countries, but differ much for low earners. This is related to country specific policies structuring especially the low-earning life courses.

Hallitus laskee valtion tukeman asuntotuotannon korkotukilainavaltuuksia 2,25 mrd. €:sta 0,5 mrd. €:oon vuosina 2024–2027.

Leikkaus säästää valtiolta vain pari milj. €, mutta se heikentää rakentamista ja BKT:tä.

ARA-lainat on sisällytetty julkiseen velkaan 2022–. Siksi hallitus leikkaa niitä nyt.
Vieraskynä | Valtion tuki asuntorakentamiselle on investointi tulevaisuuteen
Valtion tukemaa asuntotuotantoa ollaan ajamassa alas vajavaisin tiedoin vedoten kustannuksiin, vaikka järjestelmä toimii hyvin.

Two of the most underappreciated reasons why #Finland and its democracy survived WW2 are IMHO

1) Social reforms from the early 1920s to address the problem below, which greatly hampered earlier independence activists, and inequality in general; and

2) very effective military intelligence service.
And as many poor people remarked, it was fine that the “lords and ladies” now asked help from the poor when they needed to defend the fatherland, but they did not have any fatherland to defend.

Jossain määrin paradoksaalisesti tohtorikoulutuksen tärkein oppi on mielestäni alasta riippumatta tämän ymmärtäminen itsensä osalta.

Comparative Population Studies welcomes submissions to the 2026 special issue Migration Trajectories Across the Life Course, guest edited by Sergi Vidal (Autonomous University of Barcelona), Aude Bernard (University of Queensland), and Riccardo Valente (Autonomous University of Barcelona). The proposed special issue aims to leverage a trajectory-based approach that fully accounts for the multi-dimensional nature of migration across time and space, providing deeper insights into diverse migration trajectory patterns and their long-term individual and societal implications.

But here’s the thing…

His career is ending, while mine is just beginning.

He chose to “play ball” while I went and earned a Ph.D. in Sociology.

My choice wasn’t “sexy” but it was the honest one.
