Get up. Keep going. Protect each other.
Looked up my dad's parents' anniversary and poked around a bit from there. Going to guess the ancestors of William Wallace [surname] were probably not English.

Also found an ancestor who was born in MD! Just in case I need an excuse to visit (I don't but it's fun to imagine having the bandwidth)

Another day of knowing of the path I fear to tread (a shared spreadsheet that's so broken it took me 25 minutes to open, get a screenshot, and close it, while it freezes the rest of my computer)

I love how Sasha normally won't be within human reach while she's laying down but sometimes will fall asleep on top of me if I'm in bed 😻

consolidated two broken boxes full of miscellaneous stuff in storage into one box, tossed 3 full trash bags of stuff, and found a couple of things I'd actively been looking for and a lot of other fun personal artifacts

sometimes brain meds really really help!

perfect skyline cleanse
In the wake of all the news coming out of the US and the amount of shouting at the TV I've done, I thought everyone else might benefit from one of my favourite photos from 2017 to break up the doom scrolling.

I cannot fix the big things, so here's a small thing.

The day improved somewhat from the insomnia night! Knocked out an impressive amount of backlogged work to make sleeping easier, then watched the first half of HR and having a ton of Scott feelings.

Also wrote a little! Gonna unlearn my fear of the blank page. It's 20, it can live elsewhere now

Started the year reading a work email at 2am, and (despite being superficially mundane) its implications are such that I haven't fallen back asleep (3.5 hours later)

I found a way to completely turn off work apps during sleep hours because they don't pay me enough to give up sleep

I think the last show that hit me the way The Pitt has was Call the Midwife in its early seasons. Like, just rearranging who I am and want to be levels of brilliant

(Also having a lot of thoughts about how I fared in the universes where I had my shit togetherish younger and became a doctor)

@perclexed.bsky.social is someone I’ve known since way back in Smallville fandom, a great person whose had a lot of crap in her life. She’s currently living on disability and trying to scrape together the money to cover med costs related to a surgery in January. Any help hugely appreciated!
So I am officially asking for help. I tried pulling my thoughts together at my DW, which I dusted off for just this occasion. It’s the most recent entry here: perclexed.dreamwidth.org

My goal is $350. I’m at $265 right now. Stretch goal is $500. Relief goal is $750.

Deadline is Jan 3.

...did they try politely asking the covid virus to go away? seems an equally viable strategy

I wonder if the task I need to start to make friends with my laptop is consolidating my tbr into one location again (it used to all be GR, but now it's a terrible blend of that, SG, Libby, and screenshots)

We started watching The Pitt last night, and it's just absolutely incredible

But one of my mom's favorite political humor columns talked about giving grandmas the gift of HR so that's up next 🎉🎉🎉

(Not normal watch with mom fare, but that's the best available option)

The American prison system is designed to produce people who can no longer function in society. Alienated people who can't afford to trust. It's a crime against humanity.

#helpsky #mutualaid I could really use some help paying the electricity bill - it's 75 EUR and I can manage it but I don't want to run out of money and that looks very likely right now. Even 5 EUR would be super helpful. My paypal is battlesinthemorning@gmail.com.

Stayed late at work because I really wanted to get a formula working AND I DID 🎉

(I can stress test it some more next week, but I amused myself by testing it on Star Trek characters)

"In this late-capitalist culture, once you have food and a roof, all that is left to buy is imagery."

The whole piece is fantastic, but that line made a whole lot of things make sense to me
I wrote much less this year than I've written in the past five, so there's not a whole lot to revisit. This piece, though, I still think is probably the best article I've ever written, even if it was a dumb professional move to write it [free to read] www.patreon.com/posts/empero...

oh this is such a lovely way to create accessible community
There are spaces open in the Monday and Thursday co-resting groups for the winter season that starts in January. Please join us if you need and want remote-access resting community time.

In response to feeling isolated by chronic illness and appreciative of remote access to community, I host online Co-Resting Groups. They provide a way to gently socialize and rest in community.

Interested or know someone who might be? Please have a look and share!

It's almost happened enough times that I'm wondering about the likelihood of me noticing if I leave the oatmeal out of my oatmeal (I put enough other stuff in the bowl that I almost can't tell by just looking)
