Just cuz I suspect it's gonna be relevant: "underage women" is a contradiction in terms. There are adults and there are minors, who are children. Ditto "nonconsensual sex." That's rape. The only reason to play semantic games is because you benefit from obscuring the simplicity of these terms.

You know, it's remarkably easy to just not make death threats.
The account owner of @sarahkendzior.bsky.social was suspended for 72 hours for expressing a desire to shoot the author of an article. The post, made 11/10, stated: "I want to shoot the author of this article just to watch him die." 1/2

It's not all bad news, Liz! I'm a reaction image now! They're putting together a shared-universe IP and they need a replacement after the little girl in front of the burning house got arrested for insurance fraud.

“We want the government to do stuff but fuck the people who do it” is not a coherent position in any way.

This past wkend I went to a performance that included the 1942 piece Lincoln Portrait, written by the secular Jewish, leftist composer from NYC, Aaron Copland.

That & this essay from James has been a pertinent reminder of how a broad left coalition should embrace a duty-bound, American idealism.
I've written about Pericles, Lincoln, and the decay of civic life. You're welcome. I know this is the content everyone wanted.

eh, I don't want to say this isnt true, but its only part of the story; USCG also started doing annual inspections in late autumn of freighters to better ID seaworthiness, navigational charts for the lakes were revised and refined, and the rules re: freeboard were tightened up. some great lakes
In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

This has come on my feed again and I just want to say, there are people who vocally dislike government workers, they will harass you and intimidate you if you're a visible federal worker (I experienced this)

Those people are bad people and they're not getable democratic voters
Decided it's not worth keeping this one as a vague-post, I blocked this person, some of you may want to as well

prob could get ppl to believe this abt The Mary Ellen Carter & the Marine Electric sinking
Fun fact: Gordon Lightfoot wrote the song first, and then sank the Edmund Fitzgerald himself in what has come to be recognized as one of the first viral marketing stunts
