This is quite a story: the US employed every strongarm tactic available, including personal threats against delegates and their families, to derail an agreement on reducing shipping emissions that was almost finalized. on.ft.com/47lq3dZ

No Samaritans in SLC, apparently. Not on that day.
I'm shaking almost too hard to type. I entered SLC airport and heard screams and cries for help. I could see people gathered around, watching. I sped over to discover this woman face down on the floor, four grown men pushing her down, while she cried "HELP ME" and pled for her child.

#JNIM explicitly banned the transport company "Diarra Transport". Yesterday, the jihadist group announced strict conditions for the company to restart business. The company must ensure that women riding on its buses are veiled, and that it and its clients do not collaborate with the military. 1/2

at this point you have to acknowledge that there is no way that these guys don't try to mess with the 2026 midterms. there is absolutely no respect for the legitimacy of the opposition
Stephen Miller: "Eventually elections don’t carry the day because violence beats votes… When we see a muscular response from the federal government, it’s because we’re not going to let violence beat votes."

Is he implying federal intervention determines political legitimacy, not ballots or courts?

The attack has really hit home. Thanks to all of those that reached out to me personally. God bless you.
sorry in advance to anybody who is sick of me talking about this, but man is this story doing a number on my brain and its hard for me to focus as much on other stories

this dude shot kids! little primary kids!!! burned down the whole church and it could have been so, so much worse than it was.
“Not only were they victims, they were also first responders,” said Michael Danic, medical chief of staff for Henry Ford Genesys Hospital. “...Those on the scene were absolute heroes, going in and out of the fire to drag people out, helping each other take care of the victims on the scene."

This is helpful, but if anything I’d say the map is too favorable in terms of Burkinabè and maybe Malian areas of control.

It is amazing how much worthless research there is published on JNIM's politics and practices in the #Sahel. So few are based on fieldwork. So few interviews conducted. Few article engage with the literature in French. Honestly.... it's depressing.
