George Rae was appointed Edinburgh's "plague doctor" in 1645 after the first doctor died. He was promised a huge sum of money as it was expected that he, too, would die before he could collect. Rae tended to the sick & survived. He spent 10 years trying to collect the fee. #skystorians #histmed

Ah, we have just had our first encounter with S. subspinipes. For those not in the know, we have some REALLY large centipedes out here, and they're venomous enough to present a smol cat problems. Fortunately, this was a rather small 'pede (4 cm or so), and the intrepid hunter was spared a bite. :)
