It's release day!

My novel, The Awakening, is now available:

The Awakening is contemporary #litfic with a speculative element. It asks the question, "Is it possible to find redemption in unbelief?"

Another terrible headline for this administration, another day spent hearing MAGA spin this shit into silk.
🎧 Payrolls land on a Wednesday — and the data isn’t looking great. Layoffs are rising and retail sales just stumbled. We break down what it means for the economy on this week’s Reuters Morning Bid podcast reut.rs/4bODxS7
Job jitters
Main Street is wobbling, from layoffs to weak retail sales.

Speculation about this whole canceled El Paso flights thing is natural, but it's going to do more harm than good. Better to focus on what we do know: The people of El Paso and West Texas (and anyone flying to or through there) just got seriously boned by this government.

The report is just going to be a sheet of paper with a red down arrow on it.
Peter Navarro: "The jobs report comes out tomorrow. We have to revise our expectations down significantly for what a monthly job number should look like ... Wall Street has to adjust for the fact that we're deporting millions of illegals out of the job market."

It's quite the culture that we've created: We've made pedophiles our ultimate boogeymen, but then we completely ignore the victims and protect the perpetrators with redactions and legal bargains.

Good morning. The President of the United States was in the middle of the most serious child sex trafficking ring of the last quarter century.

He is referenced not a dozen times in the case files. Not 100 times. Not 1,000 times. He’s referenced 38,000 times.

"Libertarians can be annoying." I stopped reading after that sentence, as there was no way she was going to say anything else as true as that.
I feel like I'm losing my goddamnned mind.

This op-ed was written by Kathrine Mangu-Ward. Katherine is editor-in-chief of Reason magazine.

Reason fired @shikhadalmia.bsky.social for being too anti-Trump.

Seattle is tied for my favorite city in the US, so even though I don't follow football, I'm happy they won. That's my most controversial Super Bowl take.

What does the word “Farsi” mean?
Uncle Jay Hubbard's answer: > “Farsi [1]is the name of the Persian language as spoken in Iran. It’s the endonym—what native speakers call their own language—and it comes from a historical sound shift...

Seeing all the "How can they do this legally??" replies is making me want to laugh and cry at the same time.

Trump being a racist isn't news. Trump's supporters making excuses for him isn't news. We've seen this all before.

The focus should be on what his Obama video says about who he thinks his audience is. Make it clear *he thinks* his followers are fine with overt racism.

Many (many) years ago, I had an article published on the front page of the Business section of the @washingtonpost.com. It was the highlight of my young "career" (if you could call it that) and the experience of working with the Washington Post editorial team was a joy.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk are both in the Epstein Files - a lot - but they want us to be scared of "illegal immigrants."

Genuinely can't tell if this is a bit or if someone got lost on the way to Xitter, but these being the only five accounts they follow is a nice touch.

Nothing suspicious about delaying the complete release of the Epstein Files for over a month and then releasing millions of files on the last Friday of the month. That's just what a fully transparent administration would do.

Weird that this fraud story out of Texas (from last June) got basically no traction even though it's basically identical to the Minnesota fraud story, with one minor difference. Can you spot it?

Trying to be both sane and informed is the ultimate catch-22. I attempt to not get drawn into dumb Twitter or TikTok rabbit holes and subcultures because I think that's a first-class ticket to brain rot, but at the same time, I'm often out of touch with "the discourse" and useful cultural context.
