On current fee levels I calculate that 5-year entry clearance, then 5-year extension (each with IHS), then settlement fees, would come to £16,649 for a single person. For a family of four (including partner and two children) it would be £58,267. (3)

British citizens who marry foreigners will have to make sure their spouses have a minimum income of £12,500 for 3 to 5 years, or they won't get indefinite leave to remain, the UK government has proposed. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/691edd...

The settlement consultation would seem to confirm that the switch to a 20 year route will apply to those already with refugee status. A refugee who got their status 4 years ago could, depending on timings, find themselves suddenly facing an extra 15 years, with status reviews every 30 months.

From the Home Office earned settlement consultation. So anyone who has claimed benefits while they were looking for work, claimed benefits to top up a low income, claimed child benefit (!) or disability benefits (!!) or carer’s allowance is going to wait 15-20 years for settlement?

The Labour Party will lose the next election and there's a good chance they'll literally never form a government in this country ever again, hope you're happy and proud to have played your part babes x
On Monday, the Home Secretary will outline the biggest set of changes to the asylum system in modern times.

These changes will restore order to our asylum system. There is nothing ‘left wing’, ‘socialist’ or ‘progressive’ about insecure borders.

This from @stephenkb.bsky.social cuts to the heart of the matter. Does the government not understand how toxic this argument is? Do they think they can somehow weaponise it? The last governments at least had the merit not of making this kind of foul claim.

Migration is both wonderful and life-saving.

Solidarity to everyone feeling dehumanised, tired and anxious about the future thanks to yet more racist measures that have been announced by the government today.

The below is from the government's new asylum policy statement.
The language they use to demonise and dehumanise refugees is disgusting. Any MP supporting this needs to think long and hard about the sort of country they want the UK to be.
Say it loud, say it proud, refugees are welcome here.

If you find safety here as a child that means your entire childhood is lived under the threat of deportation.

If you come here as a young adult that’s the whole period when you’re meeting someone and raising a family.

We’re asking people to integrate more, but making it harder for them to do so.

The govt is right that Denmark does get fewer applicants than others in Europe

The claim this is because the UK asylum system is too open to claims can not explain the spike in 2022-23-24 arrivals.

UK had more *restrictive* rules than Denmark in 2023-24. (All irregular claims to be refused)

I came to this country as a child refugee. No English, no certainty, no idea what my life could become. Britain gave me refuge.

Not on a timer, not with conditions attached, but with a chance to grow roots.
