Thanks to the Herald for providing such important coverage of the Decolonised Transformations Report and the obligation that UK institutions have to address racism and colonial legacies within their own institutions.

I really enjoyed this debate. Thanks to the Cambridge Union for hosting this discussion on such a provocative topic.
This month @proftjcurry.bsky.social appeared at the Cambridge Union to debate the intent versus the methods of BLM. Prof Curry speaks as the Second Opposition on the motion “This House Believes BLM's intentions were more important than its methods”. Watch here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IT8C...

But Tommy J. Curry argues that universal moral concepts like democracy, equality, and liberty conceal deep-rooted racial and political hierarchies.

This far-right pastor is openly calling for the execution of “rebellious” Black youth, using biblical law to justify what is essentially state-backed violence.

Two years ago, @nber.org asked me to talk about my research on political violence during Reconstruction. Political violence is not just about intimidation, it is also related to thwarting and violently penalizing political success. Seems appropriate to revisit that today.

Exactly. But as we know historical and anthropological evidence does little to.arrest ideology.

That doesn't make any sense. Even R.W.S. Connell says her theory doesn't apply in the Global South. Male leadership outside of Europe does not mean the same thing as Western patriarchy.

Thank you for the shout out. Patriarchy is not an universal phenomenon. Racialized men are often effeminized within Western patriarchies and made the target of lethal and sexual violence.

Thank you for the kind words.

Hello,

I was unaware of this person. But will look into it.

Our data shows despite the diversity of the U.S. for example, practically all the hires remain white. Assuming a normal distribution, we should get more Black hires from a more diverse international pool of scholars, but that is not the case.

Interesting, however if we look at faculty hiring practices, how do you explain that even among Asian groups which have much higher local representation, most Asian faculty hires are international. Our interpretation suggests international hires should result in higher diversity beyond local numbers
