Female graduates in the UK fall behind men from the very start of their careers, even when they have taken the same courses, and are out-earned after studying more than four-fifths of university subjects (1/3) www.ft.com/content/cb0e...

I’m excited to share that my first book came out this summer! The book looks at how EU state aid cases become politicised (and de-politicised) and what this means for the EU’s legitimacy. At its core, the book shows how competition policy is never just technical, but also deeply political.

Brazil's Justice Moraes ignores US sanctions, says he will continue doing his job
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who is overseeing a criminal case against an ally of President Donald Trump, told a court session on Friday that he will continue to do his job and "ignore the sanctions" imposed by the United States that effectively block him from the country's wide-reaching financial system.

Here’s hoping university administrators are as clear eyed about protecting academic freedom and faculty governance as the signatories of this excellent letter.
Wow. A group of top scholars at Harvard just sent a letter to its president, Alan Garber, warning against surrendering to Trump.

Signatories include Steven Levitsky, Dani Rodrik, Ryan Enos, Theda Skocpol, and Steven Walt.

Someone forwarded it to me. Read it here:
"Regulation by deal, precisely because it bypasses general lawmaking procedures, leaves open the possibility that any deal can be supplemented with even more demands in the future. It can provide no legal guarantees of security."

What constitutional protections should be afforded to speech authored by artificial intelligence?
Exposure to the current media culture in almost any sphere – news, entertainment, business, politics, or technology – involves near constant contact with reporting on, and often barely concealed promotion of, artificial intelligence (AI) as a new and rapidly emerging area of computer engineering...

Norway is facing a similar challenge to its long-term policy of remaining outside the EU as Finland and Sweden did with their stance on NATO, writes @alanderminna.bsky.social.
To join or not to join? Norway is edging closer to the EU
Trump’s trade war has brought Norway even closer to the EU and increased the urgency for it to make a decision about membership.
