The Post-Liberalism conference at George Washington University is on today.

I'll be talking on the last panel of the day, on "Humans in their Environment"...

And arguing with a distinguished group of panelists about how 'our environment' keep us from understanding the planet.

HI all, just sent out my free weekend update. It was one of those weeks (months really) which confirmed how the war is evolving. The land war is getting more frozen and destructive for those in it, the strategic air war is broadening and expanding. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

The fact that Canadian leaders continue to have "Let's build more pipelines" conversations while Saskatchewan and Manitoba are being decimated by wildfires is just wild to me
There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd.
It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

This is an important article that gets at civil-military coordination being key to avoiding protracted war.

My next post will be on preparing for protracted war vs focusing on victory in the initial phase. (Spoilers: don’t overcorrect from the fixation on decisive battle)
Why do wars tend to become protracted despite the allure of quick victories? The answer is as likely to be found as much in political objectives as military means. open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/t...?
