So, why does Musk get so exercised by it, so many people talk about Great Replacement Theory, or Europe's civilisational erasure etc. in the States, if no one is interested? Lots of people in the States, particularly Republicans, are talking about it as if its an existential threat.

For sure, I understand. However, no one writes about how environment and depopulation interact; or if they do, they do so on the basis of unproven and inaccurate assumptions. Socio-environmental intersections with depopulation are becoming significant as we realize it's not straightforward.
