#xenacanthus
Made it to the deepest part of the game in Dave the Diver, and I feel bad taking out the xenacanthus because they are super cute :C But they are also super aggressive, so I kind of have to do something.

I have this one. Love it. :) It confidently tells us that Stegosaurus flattened its plates down as a defense mechanism, and that it probably then curled up like a hedgehog. Glorious aquatic Brachiosaurus too! Check out Xenacanthus in the back, though. I adore that painting.

O sorriso cativante do tubarão Xenacanthus.
I like to imagine he’s going “he he he”

Early Permian at NMNH, 1982 and 2019. The new design is objectively so much more engaging, but I wish I could walk through the old hall one more time.

The model for that other one is on the way, but for now, here's another random fusion. Xenacanthus (yes, another prehistoric fish), fennec fox, and monarch butterfly.

my 6-year old nephew said his favorite sharks are xenacanthus and helicoprions without missing a beat and he's right these are very cool sharks

There were several fish that were super easy for my boy (Lancetfish, Stethancanthus, Warden) but some were absolutely atrocious (Ruby Dragon, Xenacanthus, Durdina, A FRICKING EEL). But this same RNG is why I LOVE diving. You’re never guaranteed the same experience. You never know what you’ll get.

A lot 😭 knock some down only to continue to get flipped off by Xenacanthus
I feel like that fish exists just to torture me

What's worse than having a Xenacanthus slap your face after catching and releasing it in your birthday?
Having your daughter and close friend remind you of it with a picture, of course!

Xenacanthus? Long green legendary with horns...
October 22, 2025 at 5:29 PM
#ffxiv anyway just gharlicthys left for replenishing the legendary fish ranks. (any legendary that could go in a tank was put in one on my first catch, so any tankable ones shown here are how many recatches i've done)

as an aside: ambitious lure made drepanaspis and xenacanthus waaaay easier

"Today has been a good day for obnoxious legendary fish!"

Warden flop BUT XENACANTHUS!
May 15, 2025 at 11:04 PM
Xenacanthus is still the best prehistoric shark, and there's not a lot that will get me to change my mind

Despite Barbclabornia teeth being tiny compared to those of Xenacanthus or Orthacanthus, this Permian aged genus of chondrichthyan is the largest of the xenacanthids. This species lived alongside Orthacanthus compressus and Orthacanthus platypternus.

A group of tiny Permian chondrichthyan teeth of Barbclabornia luedersensis from the Wellington Formation in Waurika, Jefferson County, Oklahoma, USA. The lack of a central cusp distinguishes this species from the contemporary xenacanthid, Orthacanthus.

I'm officially half way to my Framer's Kit for catching most of the Big Fish in FFXIV.

I never thought I would know the names of any fish, but I'm pretty sure if someone whispered Xenacanthus in my ear they might catch these hands!

first ever hardhead trout mooch for xenacanthus, and got the sucker

(ffxiv, big fish)

Fuck, now I want a xenacanthus character. Partly because I don't think ANYONE has ever thought of having one, but mostly because holy shit I love them so much now despite only having ever seen them a few times in a video game.
January 27, 2025 at 3:56 AM
Yep, I'm going to do it. Xenacanthus character named Kevin, is very shy and awkward around people. Wears hoodies and gloves all the time. Partly because he likes the feel on his skin and it helps with his anxiety.
