Los Lobos - How will the Wolf Survive? (1984)

For some reason, this sounded very familiar to me.

Halfway through side one, it clicked. Steady 4/4 beat, accordion, fiddle? This is Irish Country & Western. You could two-step to it in any rural hall in Roscommon.

Small world.

I decided to pull a stack of trans books I love from my own shelves and shit got out of hand real fast. I am kind of amazed I was actually able to fit the title and author of every book into the alt text here.

Idk if you’re a Wolf Hall fan but between a character being named Rafe and a father figuring demanding a brutalized son to “get up” I think it’s officially a nod to that

A mouldering granite door cuts off the exit from the towering great hall. Judith starts to clamber up the lichen-covered granite slabs. Diana's wolf form leaves gargantuan gouges behind as she claws her way up alongside Judith.

I actually haven't watched yet, but I hear wonderful things about All Creatures Great and Small. (I adore the books.) Wolf Hall is also very good (and I also adore the books). I've been revisiting Poldark (although that's also on Netflix).

Last night for Valentine's Day, my wife and I invited up to OKC two of my friends from DFW who are recently divorced or separated, and we took them to Adele Wolf's Valentine's Follies--a classic burlesque show held annually at the Civic Center Music Hall. Good times were had.

I love Wolf Hall, written in the present tense, it makes you feel like you're in the same room as Cromwell👍But one man's trash is another man's treasure. Supposedly sensible Booker judges thought Hotel Du Lac by Anita Brookner was better than Empire of the sun by J G Ballard. There's no telling 😄

Wolf Hall ruined my life. One of those books that is so good you feel you can never have the brass neck to put pencil to paper ever again (Cairns by Kathleen Jamie is also in this category)
