When you watch chess tournaments online that are organized by the St. Louis Chess Club, chess.com, or (shudder) freestyle chess, you tend to see the same players repeatedly.
The FIDE Grand Swiss shows that there are plenty of other strong GMs that could qualify for the Candidates tournament.

The ESports World Cup Chess tournament provides drama as any sudden death, no increment time control would, but blunders and dirty flagging do not make for beautiful chess.

I’m watching the Freestyle Chess Tournament in Las Vegas. The opening phase of the game is just garbage. It seems to me that the asymmetrical placement of pieces limits the opening possibilities. After 20-25 moves the game reaches “normal” level for king chess positions.
