#win95
This is why Jazz Jackrabbit was such a big deal in the DOS space at the time, because most home computers of the era draw to a framebuffer and are too slow for smooth scrolling in most cases.

Win95 Sonic CD was initially exclusive to Packard-Bell PCs with Pentium CPUs and even then was 30FPS

I'm a big fan of doing crap like that.
I think it was NoteStar NP-740 or similar and I replaced the 486SX with 486DX2 because it had a standard slot.
After getting Win95 running I could easily add IPX/SPX protocol and have full networking over LPT (no network card on that laptop).

I got an old 486 laptop in the mid 2000s with a 40MB drive and I vividly remember installing Win95 by transferring files using LPT port (Norton Commander can do file transfers over LPT or COM).
I had to cut down the installer to minimum .cab files as it wouldn't fit with the OS install.

The new stuff is obviously much better quality (at least visually) but it lacks that weird vibe the solo Scott games have where they look like Goodwill Win95 game cutscenes

True, and this is coming from someone who had to live with Millennium Edition for way longer than I wanted to. 10 year old me trying to simply launch DOS/Win95 games on it thought it'd never get worse than that.

Meanwhile Win11 can't even do a basic OS function without tripping on its shoelaces.

iirc it was the trash bin (sort of looked like a waste paper basket) up until Win95, when they changed it to the recycling bin

I was today years old, since I knew that win95 (and I think 98 too), had a fast reboot mode that skipped the entire BIOS POST part on a system reboot.

Oof, Win95 and 16MB of RAM, and I didn't know to reboot to DOS yet. Took me a year!

It was! I've only realized way later how cool of a childhood I've had to grow up with a C64, SNES and later Win95 PC mostly for myself...

15. Psycho Pinball (Win95) - El mejor pinball temático y chulo que he jugao, fue toda una sorpresa cuando me lo puso mi tío y las animaciones están geniales, descubrí más tarde que hay una versión de magadrive, banda sonora tremenda

Microsoft 11 is the worst pos ever, possibly worse than win95. I went backwards to win10 which still sux,but not as badly. Unfortunately my audio n video programs all require win10 or higher or I'd be on Linux.

Got an adapter in recently to help with my problem where the new PC case I got for my Win95 PC didn't have the proper 3.5" bay cage to hold drives. -- It works quite well, to be honest!

Apple looking at Microsoft randomly showing win95 era UI and thinking they can be worse, much worse
what depraved, experimental-drug-and-enzymes addled little freak-goblin at Apple looked at the iOS 26 UI and went “oh, yes, this is great, people will love this”

I saw some hellish Win95 customisations in the day. 24pt Times title bars, Angry Fruit Salad palettes. But it was impossible to make it this ugly before Steve Ballmer himself would fly to your house and tombstone you.

WOW NICE, I just got me the new FORCED #windows11 Start menu layout that I can NOT revert back to the previous, more sleeker option. Holy shit, after trudging along since Win95, I guess I'm FINALLY starting to look at #linux options! Better late than never, eh? God is in the details @microsoft.com !

Also another fun theory

So if Copia uses actual Win95/Win98, then he must really, really be stubborn about change.

Wait.

Holy fuck that makes a ton of sense.

I saw a let's play on YouTube that ran it in win95, maybe a virtual box (or that thing a guy made that's literally Windows 95 as an Electron app) could help?

I wonder if it would be possible to actually make these work on a Win95 machine.

I do wanna do more Custom Win95 VMs at some point (even though making these ended up being a little more difficult than i expected for boring technical non-art reasons)
custom Windows 95 VMs I did for a couple of VTubers I watch (Alice Sawyer and AkiajiMargo) so they can play fucked up early windows stuff someday.

I wanna do more of these sometime soon
