Netværk har aldrig været min stærke side, men nu har jeg fået til opgave at sætte firewall og vlans op på en switch, og har seriøst verdens bedste mentor til det på den her arbejdsplads. Han udviser så meget tålmodighed. Med det resultat, at jeg har sat et vlan op helt selv uden at spørge om hjælp 😌

Highly recommend Proxmox, you can always run Ubuntu in a VM or LXC and deploy with Coolify there.
My various self hosted apps have their own requirements and I really like keeping them independent. Example: smart home stuff is on its own vlan, with just VM snapshots for backups.

Highly recommend Proxmox, you can always run Ubuntu in a VM or LXC and deploy with Coolify there.

I spent 3 hours troubleshooting my network after installing a new Poe switch 🤬. Finally found out the uplink of the new switch was blocking all vlan 🤦. Changed the settings and all good

it only took me all evening and most of the afternoon, but i got the new thermostat connected to wifi and the right vlan to integrate with my home automation setup. certainly didn’t help that matter needs ancient magics to work across vlans (i gave up on vlans after upgrading the routing tables UI)
in good news, i’ll have heat again tonight after over a month without

Today I added four NICs to my Proxmox server, migrated it to a new VLAN, fixed some config bugs, and added a rule so I can hack wirelessly from the couch.

After a lot of work over the last days/weeks, I have finally reached a "golden" state for my Home Network. Each major network traffic is now isolated into its own VLAN, which are spread across Ubiquiti and Cisco hardware. I have learned a lot about networking - and troubleshooting! ;-) #Networking

this article is so funny for several reasons but exposing ports for grafana/prometheus instead of using something like tailscale at minimum or just a separate private vlan (or many other options) is so crazy to me

i miss the nintendy switch 1’s shitty little http webserver and private vlan for sharing media to a smartphone. it was frankly genuis and i can’t believe they got rid of it
