Excited to see a Barbie represent T1DM community but I do feel like again it falls short when only one style of doll is created to reflect the community. #medsky #t1dm #barbie

#Medsky🧪 #IDsky #Immunosky #EpiSky #cardiosky #publichealth T1DM is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells destroy insulin-producing β-cells of the pancreas, resulting in little to no insulin production & T1DM is no longer a childhood disease.

#NephMadness Swami bringing you another lock for the first round: Simultaneous Liver-Kidney Transplant. Pancreas transplant is the past. The future of T1DM is the artificial pancreas i.e. continuous glucose monitoring paired with an insulin pump.

Clinical and Serological Characteristics of Type 3 APS, Isolated T1DM, and LADY/LADA: Unveiling Complex Interactions in Autoimmune Endocrinopathies Recent advancements in medical research have illuminated the intricate relationships between various autoimmune disorders, particularly as they pertain to endocrine dysfunction. A group of researchers led by Qiu Y. and collaborators has embarked on a profound exploration of such complexities, presenting a detailed study that highlights the clinical and serological characteristics of type 3 Autoimmune Polyglandular Syndrome (APS), isolated Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM), and LADA/LADY (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults).

It’s been said before, but bears repeating: for T1DM, insulin is not just “helpful,” an option, or the outcome of poor diet. It is a hormone needed to allow almost every cell in your body to function. You no longer make any. Without it, death is inevitable w/in a matter of days.

Absolutely not a brag! I have a friend in that world. It's a tough field/world!

For T1DM I'm excited by the prospect of tirzepatide. Lilly has two trials ongoing for it now. If it works out, it'd be a great option until we can figure out B-cell transplants.

Something odd about this story. People do not survive for a year with T1DM, and presentation is usually in children rather than people of her age, although it is not impossible. I wonder if she had a Covid infection, with some long Covid and evolving inflammatory damage to the pancreas?.
