Decades later, the setwork I still wonder about from time to time is Marguerite Poland’s Shades, but all the detail is gone. Love this idea.
I’m a nerd so I’m going back and reading all the books I had to read in AP English in high school to see how my perspective has changed as an adult. I’m almost done with Pride & Prejudice lol. Think I’ll start The Awakening next.

Eek. One was chugging towards the end of school education when it was originally published in 1986.

One reread it recently, and it struck one again that it was not his best work; that may be why it was and remains popular as a high school setwork in Saffrika: it attracts mediocre bureaucrats.

Great setwork.

Probably a lot of the setwork from the fantasy films; see the Crystal chamber from "The Dark Crystal" or the "stair chamber" from the finale of "Labyrinth".

Nope not five figures :)
We learnt very quickly we needed to add these to costume heads especially for NON UK clients 😅. For some heads for setwork/filming we cant add them due to noise so the actors have to hydrate and take regular breaks.

i love watching shit remastered from original film stock made in the 60s and 70s because you can see all the bad paint and shoddy setwork they knew they could get away with due to technology at the time

The show was very well received overall and I was able to work with the lighting artist to find good brightness levels so the screen wouldn't overpower the practical setwork.

I did some digital background paintings in Photoshop recently for my daughter's high school production of Something Rotten. She was the scenic designer and provided the Art Direction for the backgrounds and wanted them to look hand painted. They were designed to compliment the actual setwork.

Tyler, the Creator

Great live show, super cool setwork. Particularly impressive camerawork on the screens, often multiple views at once and really good directing

I aint ever been to a spirit Halloween with setwork like this 😯

I was really surprised that my partner did Achebe's "Things fall apart" as a setwork in high school in rural Wyoming!

Also like, I spent about 2-4 hours between using Forge to do the setwork, blocking, "machinemating", and camera moves in Monitor mode, dumping the footage through Theater mode, then editing it with Premiere. All for basically 20 seconds of video, lmao.

Only two uses. MC is taking a day to rest and went to the theater, seeing what's popular in the new city he's in compared to the shows back home. It let me come up with a random myth and show one way it's portrayed. I still need to finalize the name of the main city.

Listening too. But I'll go to the moon and get them broadcast television. We need to see the audacious setwork and outfits

Yeah the setwork on both those shows definitely did a lot, especially DS9 having the incredible station set from day one

I can see how budgets may have begun to run a little thin

oh yeah! the base set isn't miniatures though, that's just regular setwork. it does look really nice though!

Cinematography, scripting, pacing, acting, setwork... Tight as a drum.

EEEEVVVVEEEERRRRYYYYYTTTTTHHHHIIIINNNNNGGGGGG about it sucks shit. The camerawork. The music, both theme and interstitial. The writing. The characters. The SETWORK. How on earth did they convince Don Adams to do this dog?

Please note that I said Star Wars here, not "A New Hope," because this was actually my first time seeing the original, non-enshittified version (thanks, Despecialized!)

The pacing of this movie is spot-on without the later changes, and there's so much charm in its practical effects and setwork.

The scary movie 'When A Stranger Calls' did some amazing setwork with a very limited house. Which makes me want sitcoms to up their game. You could have done better, FRIENDS! Set wise and everything else!

My thoughts having now seen all the S25 SEs:

RotD - new effects are nice but why edit it (can’t improve on perfection)

THP - the CGI opens-up the city but jars a bit with the setwork

SN - yeah this is the best version of the story

TGSitG - basically a CGI upgrade can’t see what else was changed
