Rhodesia became a failed state when the white minority illegally declared independence from UK rather than submit to free and fair elections/join the Commonwealth. Had they not done so/then let Commies in, they'd be on very good shape now, like bordering Botswana and Zambia are now.

thank you for the correction! so it was from the context of the british colony (rhodesia) rather than directly colonisers~ i got the hospital right though! :3

I was looking at South Rhodesia with some questions, thank you.

How old is the map? I was looking for the important base in Qatar (two in Bahrain?), and then saw "South Rhodesia" on the map. 🧐

Not the point, but where is that map from? British Honduras and South Rhodesia?

Mugabe was elected to lead a failed state (Rhodesia), then he created another failed state.

[18/1/66] Tun Abdul Razak, returning from the Commonwealth Prime Ministers conference in Lagos, tells reporters British Prime Minister Harold Wilson has no intention of taking the 25,000 troops he will need to deal with Rhodesia from Malaysia.

See the levels of U.S. support that existed for Rhodesia and Apartheid South Africa. I’ve written about the latter.

lol I don't do geopolitics.

The CAF was more progressive than French or Belgian Africa by miles, as strange as it sounds. The Southern Rhodies were not the most progressive: the Northern were. In fact, Zambia (ex-Nothern Rhodesia) had a white VP in 2011-14 who became acting President in 2014-15.

There was no Afrikaans/British divide in Rhodesia, though. It refused to join ZA in 1923. It stuck with that through the 1970s, though there was some renewed support for it.

Also, the poor (Afrikaans) white problem, which shaped the NP's electoral victory in 1948, was not a factor in Rhodesia.

One strange thing I learnt while studying Zimbabwe's independence movement was that Southern Rhodesia and the Central African Federation it joined was a progressive colonial administration with increasing Black African representation. Then Rhodesia sort of curled up in 1965 and committed suicide.1/2

My High School chemistry teacher had one about 6’ long atop the blackboard. He referred to it as his steam calculator.

He also had the periodic table in Cyrillic. Lectured us on strategic minerals. (“This element found in Rhodesia, South Africa, and the USSR” was a common theme.)

The location is Harare, Zimbabwe. It was formerly named Salisbury, after the city in England. The phrase 'living in stone' is a clever reference to Cecil Rhodes, who founded the colony of Rhodesia and is buried in a granite tomb in Matobo Hills.

I was trying to order a large pepperoni pizza but the ai bot just kept telling me about Rhodesia and white genocide?

Botha. In the 1990s.

Worse than the British; their world view was molded by what happened on Rhodesia.
Was it Dutch/Boer? Or more recent white imperialists, British?

Western Sahara was ruled by Spain until 1975 (and technically could still be considered to be de facto Spanish as decolonization process was never carried out officially - like Rhodesia returned to British rule 1979-80).

But how well is that ultimately working out for Israel?

I’ve believed for years they are painting themselves into a corner and will implode before the end of the century, much like Rhodesia did.

Sooner or later they lose unconditional US support. Then what?

If you reference Rhodesia (Elon) .......
“Psychologically Western.” In the Gilded Age, America’s elite embraced the pseudoscience of eugenics to justify their own sense of superiority and provide backing for racist and anti-immigrant policies. Pretty rich for Musk and his internet-broken brain to be judging the psyches of others.
