“Are the Fae Open Source?” sounds disturbingly like something from Charlie Stross’ Laundry Novels.

DO NOT FORK THE FAE
DO NOT MAKE PULL REQUESTS TO THE FAE
Turning into my father one "the problem is no one reads enough books these days" grumble at a time

Yeah, sharing the sentiment. It also makes me feel more distant to the code base, less familiar. Like when you're only ever reviewing pull requests but never write anything yourself.

if you look at github projects that have copilot assistance, their pull requests are full of replies "no, this is wrong do it again". it can't even code right, something with a defined syntax why the fuck do they think we want to trust it with our files and financials where things are less rigid

TIL: gh pr checkout
Continually requesting minor revisions from authors in pull requests is completely unproductive. That's why I've started using this feature to fix them myself instead.

Open source maintainers already suffer a lot because of spam, and on top of that they will have to deal with these "vibe coded" pull requests.

Linus Torvalds is simultaneously a woke communist and one of the few human beings alive I would rightfully accept as an absolute monarch.

Probably because, offered a crown, he'd be like, "nah, are you crazy? I've got pull requests stacked up for weeks to get through.."

Much unlike most tech goons
Linus Torvalds being unfathomably based

The true cost of delaying pull requests: a 15,000-line monster I now have to explain.

While there isn’t a huge “who’s who” in the README, the project has seen contributions via bug reports, pull requests, and maintenance by the Bumblebee community.

I getting quite few pull requests where an issue gets picked up, a huge PR made, I use gemini reviews, it flags up lots of nits and flaws in the PR. The human then faced with having to understand the code, nopes out and closes the PR.

Did Trump thugs pull out thumbscrews? Lauren Boebert's no Einstein, but common sense has to make her think "why are they going to these extremes?"

It's beyond child sex trafficking. It likely involves blackmail & money laundering (witness Epstein financial doc requests).

u can't make me listen too that podcast i'm literally too busy ruining my workplace (read: rejecting pull requests because I haven't had my third cup of coffee yet)

Sometimes I can’t tell if someone was using an agent or not but reviewing pull requests takes a lot of my time. I probably spend double the time on the review if they use agents.

why is there a "what's new" thing on the sidebar with a red notification number that won't clear up until you individually see every single one of the news

LIKE, YOU'RE A GIT CLIENT, I'M NOT EVEN AN ADMIN, I DONT CARE ABOUT NEWS??? ffs, I just want to check my pull requests in peace

We’re not being overrun by third-party AI pull requests, so I’m not sure why we’re having this discussion. We’re managing our own time and if problems arise, we will take measures as we see fit. This is not the case at the moment, but thanks for the concerns.

I don't even use it and it wastes so much of my time.

Because other people use it. Because of the directive to use it our manager set it up to do code reviews on all our pull requests and it suggests one or two good changes among 15 pointless ones (or occasionally outright bad)

Got a lot of requests for the video so, bone apple tit.

10 mile run + pull day + flexing antics

Alright, now I've got something for new years, given my results on the recent walpurgisnacht. 18 failed 10 pulls and I got everything in 20, not including the one pity pull - meaning there will be 18 requests, with about 2 more potential slots.
14th batch, final part
Fat Gumi for @lemoncupcakes.bsky.social and
Extra Fat King of Greed for @mgofhappiness.bsky.social

All requests done, no slots remain.
Sorry for the constant delays, I've been rather busy.

I'll be sure to do something like this again next Walpurgisnight, but for now, enjoy.

Teams who measure "productivity" by output - code, commits, Pull Requests - are likely to fall into the trap of believing the code-generating firehose is making them go faster.

Teams who measure their productivity by *outcomes* usually see a different picture.

Switch your scopes to Outcome Vision.
