The path to 2026...
I watched a kingfisher divebomb an unwary insect in the long grass this morning. Too slow to get a photo, but my mind's eye recorded everything.

A wee fella peers over the petal’s thin edge, eyes wide, antennae crossed tight,
“Please be kind, 2026,” he sighs - after that year, I’ll take boring, dull, and polite. 😂🐛

Not a good photo (iPhone on a long zoom) but the shimmering wings in the morning light of new year's day were lovely. Can't identify the species unfortunately. Brisbane Australia, near Kedron Brook

Here's a stick, with eyes, that my mother-in-law found in her garden.

I just posted my photos of it to iNaturalist. It's the NZ endemic stick insect species *Acanthoxyla inermis*.

This is also one of three NZ stick insect species that have been accidentally […]

A highlight of my year was attending a Spider Biology Field Course at the Southwestern Research Station in Arizona. Here are four nighttime shots from that amazing week: an Arizona blond tarantula; a Couch's spadefoot toad; a stick insect on a creosote bush; a sleeping male longhorn bee at night.

Eucharitid wasps are parasites of ants, infiltrating their colonies as larvae and feeding on the young. Here, an adult female Tricoryna eucharitid that emerged in the nest is carried about by an unwitting host Rhytidoponera ant (Australia, December 2025). A rare find of a fascinating insect.

Whew, I'm making a lot of progress!

I think I'll set up an insect haven in the very back of the yard with the finer mulch and whatever twigs I don't use for crafting things. 🐜🪲

#White #Allium - In my #Garden - May 2025

I love the simplicity & daintiness of this beautiful little allium & the even smaller #insect sitting on it.

Another 25 for '25, an Orbweaver that had a snack wrapped up. I was re-invigorated with macro shots this year, and enjoyed celebrating the little things in the garden.

Course I have to get a wee December bee in but I for Insect might work?
I am thinking maybe allegories as well as actual:
Persistence & Survival
Collective vs Individual
The Unseen/Ignored
