For this #MapMonday, we'll be making sure that all of the Ordnance Survey Quarter Inch #Maps that were published in 1975 are available on SABRE Maps, with the addition of Sheet 6 to add to all the others already available. Any ideas as to which 1975 maps we'll add next? buff.ly/AWqLo5c

Don't forget that we've also got every single Ordnance Survey Landranger #map from 1975 already online for your delectation and delight. And remember that you can compare them to the 1974 editions (and the previous One Inch maps) using our Map Fader.

A brief pause after this months council meeting to catch up and wish everyone at The BCS a Merry Christmas 🎄

Thank you to Geovation @ordnancesurvey for hosting us and to BCS President @PaulNaylor for leading a very successful year (and supplying the chocolates!)

Here’s to a prosperous 2026!

Folklore has linked Cadbury Castle #Somerset to King Arthur for centuries

The ostensibly sober #OrdnanceSurvey once got in on this with an overtly definitive identification of the hillfort as 'Camelot'

So it must be true

(Please note, other Camelots are available)

Amazingly, the #OrdnanceSurvey were still producing brand new civilian #maps in 1940. So, let's get nine examples of the final hurrah of the pre-war One Inch Popular Edition online for everyone to enjoy as part of the world's largest online collection. buff.ly/60rvcrJ

#victorian innovation never ceases to amaze me. If there was a process needing industrialising, scaling, and making more efficient, they found the solution. Exhibit #1: how Carlisle solved the tricky problem of polishing its turds. #ordnancesurvey #Map #manure #envhist #nneteenthcentury #History

The next batch of #OrdnanceSurvey One Inch Popular #maps are now online. This is a relatively small set of six sheets- it's almost as if the OS were busy elsewhere. buff.ly/nnSVyaZ

Quick quiz - what's the most obvious difference between the extract and a modern map?

Well, Dad was in his element tonight with new Year 7 Geography homework. OS mapping, grid referencing, contours and of course some good old GIS and dat analysis. Hands on learning via Dad @calderdale.bsky.social #gis #geo #ordnancesurvey

Scroll through for the oxbow lake map changes example! And a great example of how survey dates affect the look of some of the maps. All of us who’ve studied any sort of geography love these features ❤️

Today sees some more improvements to SABRE Maps - we've updated and improved the georeferencing on our 1969 #OrdnanceSurvey One Inch maps, so that they appear even more accurately in their right places. buff.ly/p0P5IxD

#OrdnanceSurvey #map covers of the 1920s and 1930s are an utter work of art; and just as worth preserving as the contents inside.

So, what do we have for this week's #MapMonday? Well, the next batch of 15 maps from the #OrdnanceSurvey One Inch Popular Edition, adding sheets revised in 1936 to our already large collection. buff.ly/3TyUjFi

I bring you Ellis Martin, the #OrdnanceSurvey #map cover artist 1919-1940.
So successful were his designs that the Ordnance Survey maps out-sold the competition, appealing to the (comparatively) new markets of walkers, cyclists, motorists and tourists.
I do like a nice bit of commercial art.
