Aaaaa, that's my local octobass! That's the Montreal Symphony's concert hall.

Also, omg that sea slug is SO CUTE. I want to touch it (which would be a very bad idea, yes?)

In general: how geisha have a specific pattern they trace on their neck so their makeup won't ruin their wigs + the beauties that are cyerce elegans: www.tumblr.com/sleepy-bebby... (plenty of gorgeous pictures on that post)

In the musical field it's this bad boy:

Octobass. And the means to transport it, obviously...

The octobass is over 340cm (11 feet) tall, & can play notes below the frequencies that humans can actually hear. As it's so tall, there's a mechanical system that lets you fret notes by pulling levers at the base of the neck.

まあ私がOctobass使う時ってワンショットみたいに、静かなパートで重低音の雰囲気として長音を入れて、ローカットしちゃうんだけど。

The octobass. The only instrument in the string section that requires a step stool to play. Lol

what i like the most about it is that "octobass" sounds like funk-themed supervillain!

Just watched a bunch of videos about this octobass and my horror score loving self is enamored with the sound of this.

Octobass are neat! Bass and contrabass flutes are interesting as well.
This is a contrabass flute, as an aside:

I love seeing the Octobass on the timeline because any recent pics are one of the two extant versions still used:

1. A pic of that one guy in Europe
2. This one of my former teacher Eric who absolutely lost his mind when the OSM got it. He is so happy to be playing that thing you guys
The Octobass, not a tiny man with a violin.

Bonkers.

Google it.

Getting a sunroom with cathedral ceilings (and barn doors) added to my house just so I have a place to practice my octobass.

I offer you a piece of classical music today, an underrated one: "St. Cecilia Mass", composed by Charles Gounod in 1855.
It is a solemn mass dedicated to St. Cecilia, patron saint of music.
This version also uses an octobass, a gigantic evolution of the double bass:

OH HEY LOOK IT'S AN OCTOBASS

...human ears can't hear the fundamental. The lowest frequency we can theoretically hear is 20 Hz, while the lowest open string on the Octobass is C0 at 16.35 Hz. You'll still hear something because of harmonic overtones but you'll feel the fundamental.

I am fascinated by the Octobass and seeing/hearing/feeling one played in person is a bucket list item, because no recording of something like this can really do it justice. This is the sort of instrument that you feel as much as hear because the frequencies are so low that...
This world is really broken because what do you mean it took me 34 years to learn about the existence of OCTOBASSES
