We did a ton of work for NYHEAT but we were not a lead group on it in terms of decision making, structure, campaign etc. That was by choice.

I’m willing to criticize decisions we made on campaigns and efforts we led on, so I don’t want sound like sour grapes, but I think there was a lot wrong…

NYHEAT is now over so it’s kind of irrelevant, but the way that the climate movement inched its way to an affordability directive that was really a process not requirements was not… ideal. I don’t want to push any more process bills. Requirements + Money is increasingly my policy mantra.
August 2, 2025 at 2:39 PM
Tbh I felt like we were bullshitting a bit with the NYHEAT act, where the 6% cap was a directive for a process by the PSC. I was ok calling it an energy affordability bill because it was with the infrastructure stuff but the 6% was kinda flimsy.

Delgado also calls for #NYHEAT act passage and other actions like changing how utility rates are set that would bring down bills for working New Yorkers.

Our own Asher has a great op ed that is turning up the heat on Speaker Heastie who blocked key climate bills with massive public support—incl packaging reduction & #NYHEAT. We won’t forget. If you ignore us, you don’t belong in office tinyurl.com/4x8n9v7h

“New Yorkers have proved they want climate justice, and any official who ignores us has no business being in public office.”

That's it! Carl Heastie, Assembly Speaker and assemblyman for NY District 83 has to go. This man is bought and paid for by corporate lobbyists. Every year he kills the vote for the NYHEAT act and now he's killed the PACKAGE REDUCTION ACT too!!!

If you live in District 83, vote him out!

They're debating ending the 100 foot rule now. Yeah, it will pass. This is all just Republicans shouting for no reason at this point. It's only a piece of NYHEAT, but still significant victory!
