I project so much of my young explorations into Wicca & various witchcraft and neopagan practices but I’m very Private about it bc so much of it is so deeply personal And its often spiritual practices that outsiders already kinda rolled their eyes at when i was growing up ;;;;

Yeah, those things happened, an the Nazis also adopted a slew of occult and neopagan beliefs because they did not have a coherent religious policy. My position is not “Christianity good and mysticism bad.” It’s creating a false dichotomy to separate the two.

I was going to say that you could even call Santa Muerte an unproblematic religion because she doesn't have Crusades or Neonazis attached to her, like with most popular forward facing religions (I am thinking about the faiths people love to call Neopagan here too).

He almost certainly didn't exist. To me that means it's a legend that can be reinterpreted for each generation. My "tragedy of a lost golden era" preference is no more valid than a queer and/or feminist and/or neopagan interpretation. They're all equally valid. I don't think that's suspicious.
